Dan: What is the number on the trigger guard? Would also like to see some photos.

Ben: This 303 carries both German & British proofs.

Paul: Mauser supplied Rigby with actions, barreled actions, and stocked barreled actions.

Note: Early Rigby bolt guns had the St. James's St. address. Sometime about 1910, they moved to Sackville St.

Had a look on Schwandt's site at the 416. There are photos of a 275 Rigby with a barrel address of "28 Sackville St.". They were located at 43 Sackville St, not 28. With a serial # of 6128, they should have moved to the 32 King St address by then. The engraving is suspect compared with other Rigby's I've seen. Anyone else notice this discrepancy. Any comments?

don,on that 28 sackville gun , front sight is not typical ,the rear sight is not typical and i cant believe rigby would let a gun go without a buttpad but the bolt handle looks ok [being bent a little closer to the stock] and the stock style looks ok a call to paul roberts at jeffery usally straightens things out.the 7x61 on that site was owned or at least an article written by ken waters in RIFLE magazine years ago as one of his favorite rifles.
the 416.on that site sold for 25k
i spoke with the owner of the california based rigby co. and told him he should make cased identical copies of .275 rigbys ,like commemoratives they are relativly easy guns to biuld no cheeckpiece stocks.no grip caps,no forend tips, military style bottom metal, steel butt ordinary looking wood the only problem would be the intermidiate action but i guess it fell on deaf ears as my request for a serial number research
don, did you visit rigbys when they were in blackfriars area, it was there last adress before be sold i went there in 1995 im glad i got to see the place when they were still on the [other side] although not an impressive biulding that they were in ...paul

With regard to Schwandt's 275 Rigby, besides the bogus address engraving , the receiver shows no signs of serial no's, proofs or markings of any kind. They describe the rifle as "Unaltered original condition". There are a lot of red flags here and I'm surprised they made no mention of any of them. I would not want to be the guy that parted with 6K for this piece. Paul: sending you a PM.

Even rarer than a British proofed 303 Mauser in intermediate action ! A Oberndorf Mauser in 303 that never made it to British shores, sance British proofs, only German complete with bore diameter in mm stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the front ring. According to Speed these were mostly trashed in factory as test rifles thus few made it into the market place. I have included pics of the slanted mag box for the rimmed 303 cartridge as well as the opened bolt face for the cartridge base

Alf:
Fascinating and rare rifle, first one I've seen. When does the serial # say it was produced? Mauser Type B stock is shaped like a Rigby around the triggerguard. Does that diamond design conceal a crossbolt? Bolt handle has an odd bend.

The actual rifle is listed in Speed and SN dates it at circa 1908.
It's a short intermediate action.
The stock is typical pre war and also is number matched to the rest of the rifle and parts.

The diamond inlay was done aftermarket by ??????. Does not hide a crossbolt

Congrats on a beautiful rifle and a great piece of Mauser history. A similar one is shown on pg.94-95 in Speeds book.

This is an older thread and a some of the pictures have disappeared. I'm interested in seeing ALF's pictures for the slant box and bolt face. If anybody has this info it would be greatly appreciated. Would like to know box width front and back. Also hole spacing on action. Thanks. Ron

I keep some threads (with photos) copied but unfortunately this was not one of them.

I sent an email to Alf's registered email address. He may pop back in. Or not.
