I'm Steve Zihn and I'm new here
      #81223 - 24/06/07 12:26 PM

Hello all.
My name is Steve Zihn
This morning a gentleman e-mailed me and told me about this forum. I joined and it looks like a fun place to exchange ideas and knowledge.
make muzzleloaders to earn my living, and I would like to think I am fairly good at it. But I am NOT very good with computers. I would like to ask if there are a few of you out there that could help me along now and then, so I can interact here.
I don't "speak geek" at all, and most of the direction don't make any sense to me. It's in a "language" I don't understand.
But if a few of you could hold my hand and guide me now and then, I am sure I could get used to this stuff quick enough.

I hope to interact here in the future, and I also hope to bring some knowledge to this forum to help others.
May God keep us safe.
Steve Zihn

Very nice, Steve. Your Purdey looks almost identical to the .75 my bro made for a local moose hunter - an excellent hunting rifle. While the .75 is a bit large for North American game, your .66 is perfect for our larger species of big game.

Thank You Daryl
Forsyth and many other of the old school thought the "1 once rifle" was the best all around weapon for world wide hunting with the exceptions of Elephant, Hippo, Rhino and Cape Buffalo.
For all other large non-dangerous game, and all big cats, the 66 was the recommended size.
Many of those men killed more game in a month and any of us will kill in 20 years, so it think it's wise to listen to what they wrote.
I also am making a Rigby style 12 bore in the next year or so. The 12 bore is way more than is needed as you said, but loaded with a 1/2 charge it's no more than the 12 ga slugs that many folks use back east for deer hunting, with excellent accuracy too. If you load 200 grains of powder, it's suitable for everything, including careful picked shots at elephant.
I will hopefully have it finished in the next year or so. It's going to be a "speculation rifle" so I work on it as and when I can. My customers have to come first.

Type szihn in the search box, and my album will come up.
I woulod post more here, but I don't want to "make a hog out of myself", and I have 7 pages of pictures there.

Happy hunting

Steve,

Checked some of your pictures out and the guns are really beautiful. Yes, I am always happy to learn from experienced shooters and especially from masters of the craft of making fine guns. It would be a pleasure to read your posts whenever you make them and I shall keep an eye on the forums waiting for them.

Please do post as often as you can. I am certain that I am just one among many members here who is eager to read them. I also hope that I would get into traditional muzzleloading sooner with the temptation that the posts here evoke - right now, I am somewhat of a Philistine with a Knight inline and I even bought a scope for it because my wife is cross dominant and I want her to shoot this particular rifle.

Reading your posts and checking the pictures out is going to be how I expiate for my sins.

Thanks again and very good hunting!

Mehul, I am always happy to talk about guns and hunting. I am at your service.

e0mail me sometime at szihn@wyoming.com and we'll chat. I love my craft, and it's always great to share thoughts and knowledge.
I hope to hear from you soon

I would post more on here, but I am not a very good author or articles. I do better answering questions and adding to an existing conversation. I was blessed with some skills, but creati8ve writing is not one of them. I can only type about 20 words per minute, and I make LOTS of mistakes. I also work 12 hour days, so as you can guess, I have little time left to write.
But I will try to add something meaningful to this forum, and I am delighted to share knowledge with anyone that wants to know.

Happy hunting
Steve Zihn

Beautiful rifles! As I progress backwards in time (while refusing to get old!) I've abandoned smokeless for black in cartridges over the years and now more fully appreciate the elegant simplicity of flint, powder and ball. Welcome!

Thanks BPESteve.
I will look in every day. I hope to get to know a bunch of new friends here.
I like any kind of shooting that burns powder, but my first love is muzzleloading.
I hope to share my knowledge and passion with any and all that are interested.
Happy hunting and shooting

Steve,

I've been away from the forum awhile this summer while traveling, so I just saw your post. Let me extend my welcome to you. Thanks for joining the forum.

I have a fairly nice .54 flintlock made by a local artisan, Warren Fitzgerald. I enjoy shooting it. I also have a T/C inline .54 that gives me no pleasure at all.

Your rifles look beautiful. I look forward to learning from your posts.
