Blaser S2 Double
      #79455 - 27/05/07 04:46 AM

Just got back from the range where I fired my Blaser S2 DR in 500/416 for the first time. Well, I learned not to have so much finger inside the trigger guard that the rear trigger is activated from recoil from pressing the front trigger (it doubled). After I calmed down a bit, I was able to put two shots, right and left, into 3/4 inch at 50 yards.

I've owned a Westley Richards 450/400 and a Searcy 577 Nitro before, but I think this the best of the three.

Ammo is a bit stiff, though. Krieghof sold me 10 rounds for "only" $170. Think I better start reloading.

Anyone else here have a Blaser or shot one?

I have an S2 in 9.3x74R and I'm very satisfied with it. Very accurate and the rifle fits me like a glove.

Ah, the joy of buying 'factory' ammo for a large bore double. I always thought that when buying any of the commercial loads, one must bend over and grab one's ankles. I have found Mark Reynolds (www.mwreynolds.com) to be the most reasonably priced Kynoch dealer, and his prices are usually better than Galazan or the WR cartridges. None, however, is cheap. Reload or try some of the custom reloading shops such as Superior, Stars and Stripes (ask for Cola, yes, as in the drink) or Pacific Coast Cartridge. Dave

dnovo: thanks much. I talked to Stars and Stripes yesterday. They're a bit high on price, but Accurate Ammunition came in at $130 per 20 rounds. High, yes, but the cheapest around.

Its good to see Accurate Ammunition may be able to supply you with some ammo. As a sponsor on NitroExpress.com it is good if they can help members here out with ammunition and good for them to get some business from NE members as well. A win win.

Glad you found ammo. I shudder at the cost of shooting some of the 'factory' loads, but if one does not load your own, the independants offer a good alternative. Dave

Price is for the 500/416 ammo.

But Wait, There's More - I've been dancing with Jon at Accurate for two months now, and still don't have my ammo. I've sent him over $600 (um on me) for 100 rounds and all I get are stories. His web site is down and his e-mail address is no good. I talked to him two days ago and he promised again to send by today, but no ammo so far.

BTW ... I've found a reduced-charge load for the 500/416. I've loaded 8 rounds behind 35 gr of H5744. After my rotator cuff on my left shoulder heals, I'll try it (recent surgery). The factory loads from left and right are less than .5 in. appart at 50 yards, so I'll stick with the 109.5 gr of H1000 load which duplicates factory.

Cape buffalo next April.

I'm going to try it on moose this Oct. Should do the trick.

Also, if my shoulder doesn't heal well, I'll sell the S2 for far, far under list of $10,500. Probably around $7500-7800. Maybe less, depends on how fast it will sell.
