Hello everyone, new member here.

I've read lots of the post in the past on this site and really enjoy it. I now have a better reason to read them and actually join. I own a double rifle. My best friend in this world, who was a member here "DaveM3", died on Dec. 23, 2006. He owned a G. Little .500 Black Powder Express. I was fortunate enough to purchase it from his family. It was a privilidge to get to handle and shoot such a rifle and it's truly an honor to own my best friends prized double. Not a day goes by that I am not reminded in some way of him as we spent lots of free time tinkering with or shooting our favorite guns. Like myself he liked big bore rifles and told me that "recoil builds character". Well, I think we stocked up on it between the .500 and my .458 CZ. Dave's still here, it's just hard to talk to him now. He had a long battle with cancer and I guess Jesus needed someone to teach him to shoot.

Chris, I give you my hearty welcome to the forum. You have a special prize in the double rifle you have acquired from your friend. Post pictures of it when you have the time.

You will find NE.com a friendly and informative place to visit.

Welcome to the forum.
Ones hunting /shooting friends are always special.
It is always great to have someone to share your
firearm experiences with.

Recoil does build character!! a friend GD once said- If it smacks you hard enough to knock you down consider a smaller caliber, otherwise keep shooting.

Can't say i agree entirely with GD but big guns do make the shooting more of a challenge.

Good knowledgible folks here-- I think you will enjoy this website.

It is good to hear that you have been able to acquire your friend's double rifle. I am sure he would be pleased to know it is in your hands. And what a great way to remember a good friend later when some time passes than to talk his rifle out for a hunt and remember good times.

Chris welcome. I'm glad you are here. I hope the rifle gives you lots of pleasure. It would me under those circumstances. Those personal effects from a deceased friend always carry much more meaning and value than the dollar amount they cost me. AND! I guess you should consider yourself a member of the DRSS clan. RZ

Chris-

Welcome!

Very sorry to hear your friend has passed on.
Good that you get to hang on to his rifle and keep it running till it's time for you to turn in.

As I recall, that was one very good shooting double rifle.
Pull up his threads, note he'd made some comments on that rifle's performance.
Captian Curl has a load for that rifle that shot very well.

Chris Smith , you are fortunate man, indeed! There are two things most hunter/shooters rarely own in his whole life, and they are #1 one true friend, and #2 a good old double rifle! You seem to have found both, and now you are again fortunate, in finding this website! Welcome here, for you are amoung friends again!

I shot it twice the other day, and of course cleaned it after. Used the dies and a few rounds that were primed already. They were only 70 grains of black powder instead of the full 140 grain load but still enough to get my attention. We have found probably all the stuff that goes with it. Last night we located about 50 more brass, 5 molds he made( he was an excellent machinist), a moderate quanity of bullets already cast and a bit more load data. I also bought his old Lyman bullet lube/sizer and all the punches and sizing dies. I guess the two shots were kind of a salute to him but they went in the black(15 yards-hard to miss) I'm going to have to sit down and read all his notes to see what the proper loads are.
