Some photos from the August 2006 DRSS Hunt
      #65283 - 04/11/06 01:10 PM

I thought you guys might like to see these photos. These were taken at the August 2006 Double Rifle Shooters Society Hunt at Camp Cooley, Texas.

Here were bullets from all of the DRs in camp (With the exception of the big .700 NE on the left and a few pistol rounds on the right.):

Here is a photo of all of the DRs (and a few bolt guns) in camp that weekend:

Here is a group photo of the participants with their screen names on accuratereloading.com:

More guns:

My old man and I with the .577 NE and a .500 NE:

And last, "the Doublers". Last year, Rusty doubled a .470 NE, this year 700 Nitro doubled my .577 NE and Perry doubled my .500 NE:

Aahha, the usual suspects. Looked like y'all had fun, judging from the fat grins on your faces. Clark, why're you swetting so bad, heat and humidity at that time of the year?

Man, I sweated my balls off that day. Central Texas in August. I think hell was cooler that day!

Clark

I really like the cartridge line up. The rifle line up looks impressive too, but there are too many and too far away!

Can anyone name them all for me?

Looks like great fun was had by all.

Well guess who in the excitement of his first elephant hunt, forgot to use the rear trigger first and used the "normal" front one resulting in another ffffing double! Yes me. One shot went to the brain, the second over its head, at least we couldn't find another bullet hole. I also heard tthe second shot, but did not feel the second trigger (assuming this is what happened). The recoil didn't bother me, but having no extra shot as insurance to put into the downed cow, and also nine other elephants coming crashing in from the left did bother me!

Something I found very interesting. The PH(s) said a LOT of clients double their double rifles. So it is a lot more common than most guys are willing to admit.

I must do a lot of training using the rear trigger first to get it instinctive.

PS Thanks for posting the photos.

Well, yeah, there are a LOT of dyed-in-the-cranker bolt rifle guys playing with double rifles.

Honestly, John, your practice time would be better used in learning to keep your finger on the front trigger through the recoil impulse. Say you're hunting buffalo, but you've bumped lion that you're trying to avoid, so you're loaded with a barrel of each. You may NEED the right barrel first. What do you do then, just accept the risk of another double discharge while standing in front of game that isn't happy with the quick 8-ring you took instead of an "X"? Using the rear trigger first is a crutch to avoid the DR learning curve, and it can get you into trouble.

I have some better pics of the rifles that I'm uploading to a file share server. But my personal internet connect sucks tonight, so I'm going to get those photos up sometime this week.

I think it was what ROSCOE was shooting.
