This is what Mike calls his cup-nosed solid that is meant to expand slightly. He makes a pure solid that looks like this without the cup. This is the one he says is safe in a double rifle.

Do they make any bullets for a 500 NE?

Bonanza,

I think calling the North Fork Cup Point a "solid" is maybe a bit incorrect. Granted, it's a monolithic bullet, but in function a blend of "soft" and "solid". JMHO.

I'd like to try some one day though!

Mike makes the bullet in both homogenous cup points and solids.

the new part here is that there are more bands near the top and thus more lattitude for seating depth is now available with these.

good news, I was certainly hoping for this too.

For 500 NE, don't know, maybe. He will be producing them for 470 NE. He said these bullets have a .010" band and have the least amount of friction of any bullet on the market, let alone any solid.

Interesting projectiles.

Are the grooves cut into the shank or are they ridges protruding from the shank?

They protude from the shank. The idea is, the body of the bullet does not touch the barrel, only the ridges, which are "bent" back to the bullet shank. Thus these homogenious bullets are safe in double rifles. I have shot the cuppoint in my 450 No2. Shortly I will be testing the flat point solids. If they shoot as good as the cup points I will take some of both to Zimbabwe this March.

The cup point is designed as a buff bullet, you get some expansion, thus better wounding, with still plenty of penetration.
