Another 11.2x72 Schuler cal rifle joins the family. This is my 3rd rifle in this caliber.
This was posted for sale about a year ago in a classified forum. I can't believe it didn't sell... lucky me !
The posting included the following information.
"...I picked this up last week to help a friend out ... and I really have no use for it. I thought I would post it on here to see if anyone had any interest. The makers name is on the pic of the rib.It has a 24" octagon to round full ribbed barrel and the LOP is 14 3/8" to front of the double set trigger and weighs under 8.5 lb.Most questions can be answered by the pics. Brass dies and a bullet sizer .450 to .440 is included. ..."
information from others added this ...
"... Perhaps "FR. TENHAEFF UTRECHT" (found on the rib) is actually a small retail sporting good shop that had their name added and sold this rifle. ..."
As in the past, if anyone can help to interpret the makings and the maker and year of production, it would be greatly appreciated.

Certainly a beauty alright Buckstix! Another range report to see how she preforms! If you fitted these rounds into a stripper clip, how many fit, 4 perhaps? I'm assuming this will be double stack internally, perhaps 3 in the magazine & one up the spout?

in the fatherland 11,2x72 rifles are rare as hen's teeth. you have absolutely great luck with finding them. FR. TENHAEFF UTRECHT must have been a gun shop in the netherlands wo sold this rifle. the only reason to buy it was someone live and hunt in the dutch east indies. no doubt the rifle was made in Suhl. August Schüler is the most likely candidate but other firms in the neighborhood are also possible. looks like the magazine was extended by a brass frame. can't remember to have seen this before but maybe there are allready similar pics on nitro express we forget.

Yes, my original Peterlongo 11.2x72 also has such a frame to extend the magazine capacity to allow 1 up and 3 down. see my post from 2 years ago.

Richard Mahrholdt, the owner of Peterlongo/Innsbruck then, was a good friend of Schüler and got this big game rifles form Suhl. so the chance is very high that this rifle was also made by Schüler.

That's 4.7 grams, which is 72.5321grains. 47 grams would be 725.3208 grains.
This as according to my conversion table, called "unit converter". I think it's a Samsung application.

Yes correct, I noted that also, the receiver side image does show 4,7g C.B.P., it's the hand written information (Buckstix) that has 47. G - CBP printed.

The hand written piece of paper was done by the original owner ... I have corrected the information.

Well, as a side note: Here is a warning about using someone else's hand-loads. As the original pictures show, this rifle came with some hand-loaded ammo. The seller assured me that the original owner of the rifle, that loaded the ammo, was a careful trustworthy reloader. The load data that was written on the box read ... "400g Woodleigh sp, 85g 3031, CCI 250 magnum primers". I have been loading for this cartridge for about 8 years, and have never seen such a HOT load with 3031 powder. The 1992 Handloader Magazine #144, lists a 400g bullet and 3031 powder with a 76.0g starting load, and 80.0g max load. When I pulled the bullets of the hand-loaded ammo, I found powder weighing from 87g up to 90g. NEVER, NEVER, trust anyone's hand-loaded ammo without carefully inspecting it. The only hand-loads I trust, are my own.

Potentially destructive loads there mate! I don't blame you at all in pulling those loads, 3031 was never a slow powder so the pressure would have been WAY over the top. Thank God you did, both you & the rifle are safe!

Yes, I've been dealing guns for 60 years and have been given many dozens of other peoples hand-loads. About 45 years ago I learned a lesson of someone's mistake. Since then I've made it my rule to NEVER trust anyone's hand-loads.

when pressure is so high you can't open the bolt with your hands anymore, most times also the brass in the chamber starts to disamssemble itself. the start here is the primer hole becomes wider. then you have a serious overpressure and the next step with a little bit more pressure would be the action explode.

Fortunately only the brass case was ruined, and the rifle remained unharmed.

wenn seeing this 10,75x68 Schüler again was thinking about your new one. this rifle here is very close in the make up to a 1920s Schüler for the 12,7x70 I had in my hands.

the proof marks showing this rifle is probaly made before june 1934. it looks like this rifle starts as 9,3x64 but was then rebored for the 10,75x68. there are older proofmarks under the new ones but I think all was still be done in the shop of Schüler in Suhl

I think we should look a little bit on the serial numbers of schüler rifles. the 10,75 x68 is 26190 and made in 1934?
your 11,2x72 is 17862, to bad without the proof date. I think its fair to say this rifle must have been build around 1930?
your Peterlongo Schüler have the SN 11542 and is proofed in Ferlach /Austria in 1909?

of course, proof could happen much latter
need more examples

hello lancaster,
if I do the math ...
sn 26190 =year 1934 sn 17862 = ? sn 11542 = year 1909
that's 25 years between year 1934 and year 1909 ... and 14,648 guns between year 1934 and year 1909 = 585 guns per year so 10 years production would be 5,850 guns .... sn 11542 plus 5,850 = sn 17392 = year 1919 so ..... my gun sn 17862 would be year 1919 to year 1920 .... and, if production became more efficient over the 10 years ... my gun could be even earlier .....
