Saltwater crocodile in the grass

I remember seeing a similar photomtomthis video if a saltie lying in the grass. Visible from the air, not until you almost step in it on the ground.

It reminded me of how we walked for kilometres through shallow water or grasses carrying out stuff from a buffalo kill. No gun ... I just mentioned elsewhere how nice it would be to be able to carry a handgun legally at such times. Just in case it was needed. Carrying a long arm is always possible if carryingmout lots of heavy stuff, a cape, a skull and horns, several day packs etc.

One is lucky at times. But planning for luck is stupid.

Was told by an old bloke in the Solomons who use to conduct war history tours. He had spent a fair bit of time over a couple weeks wading through swaps and surrounding low lying areas around Henderson Airfield (Honiara International) looking for aircraft wrecks. That is till he did a fly over in a chopper. The number of salties he saw putting him off going in there again. Can't say I blame him.

They travel overland at times and can be a fair way from water. There is one spot we fish that feeds off a flood plain and you can fish out in the open or man up and go in to jungle. Its all mud and overgrown tree roots and stumps where a small creek runs through. Scary as hell. Alot of guys wont go in there but the risk is the rush. No handgun would save you in there though. I just always hope with the amount of fish in there they wont be hungry.
