Casper, your rifle is a Steyr 95 turn bolt isn't it?

I have a Steyr military rifle in also I think 8x50R, but it is a straight pull. I forget what model it is.

John it's a straight pull. This is the 2nd that I've owned. Both were/are higher end sporters. They're quite a nice little carry rifle. If the ammo wasn't so difficult, I think it would make a nice medium game rifle.

Old mil-surp ammo is often unreliable, slight hang-fire noted on third shot in the Youtube clip.
Berdan primers are a nuisance when reloading too.
...but the marvelous 205gr spitzer FMJs that retail here in Oz from time to time are perfect! I just recently loaded a few WR .318 rounds with that bullet, being .330 diameter, but haven't banged them off yet.

I bought a bag of 8x50R new brass years ago. I hope its the right brass for my rifle. I bought it specutively as it was available at the time.,

I bought my rifle by "mistake". I wanted the Dutch Steyr in 6.5x53R. But was told it was gone. So decided on the straight pull Steyr 8mm. Then a day later on thecway to the Top End, the same gun shop told me, the 6,5 buyer fell through. So bought that as well. Bertram sold me 6.5x53R brass.

My 8x50R is an M1895 as well.

Btw I'm always surprised to see target shooting in the snow. Today we had 41 deg C.

I prefer the 0F to 41C, unless I'm inside an air conditioned house, trailer(caravan) or house, restaurant. At 30C I need air conditioning.
41C at John's place is 105.8F.
This was a group of us shooting the trail on January 1st -15C or 5F for those south of the 49th.

Sheldon Claire who took the picture. Sheldon is on an MLA, member of the legislature assembly for the conservative party of B.C. Sheldon is a retired army dude and college teacher.
He is holding a Baker rifle Taylor built for him.

Only posted this as we also shoot "in the snow".

If I didn't shoot in the snow/cold I couldn't shoot for around 5 months of the year. Can't go that long.

Same here. In Alaska they have 8 months of winter and 4 months of poor sledding.

You're all aliens living in that white stuff,

I haven't worn a shirt for five days. It's a formal day when I wear shorts. At home that is.

Does the 8x50R meet BGRC Group 1 rules?

3.1 Group One:
3.1.1 Minimum calibre .330”
3.1.2 Minimum bullet weight 165 grains
3.1.3 Minimum muzzle energy 2900 ft. lbs

Edit: Answer, no, about 600 ft lbs lacking in energy,
