BRNO/ZKK 600 Question
      #384246 - 17/04/24 08:21 PM

I have the opportunity to pick up a ZKK 600 in 7x57. Every thing looks to be correct but the stock has a cheek piece. All of the pictures I can locate never feature a cheek piece. Colour, style, checkering etc. look to be correct and original and gun appears un-molestered. Can anyone clear this up for me? Was there a factory stock with cheek piece? Pictures or links to pictures would be appreciated.

Does it have the pop up peep sight?

If a good price, I'd snap it up if I was you.

Harder to find ZKK 600s nowadays. 7x57 is a good chambering.

I can't answer about the cheek piece.

Old advert for a .270 on SSAA GunSales HERE shows the monte carlo style stock with a cheek-piece.
Is this what you mean?

I had one in 7x57, but my stock had a schnabble forend tip. I do not remember a cheek piece. IIRC it was dated 1960.
I just tried to find a picture of it in my computer and failed.

Having a look through some old NZ Deerstalkers Association publications I have and came across a few advertisements for the ZKK Brno rifles but all images only showing the bolt side of the stocks. The image below does show the left side of the new Brno rifle with a cheek piece being presented to the National Rifle champion for the year 1969.

There were two stock types. One was a monte carlo style (with cheek piece) and the other was a standard style. I don't know if the ZKK600 standard stock had a cheek piece or not. The ZKK 601 standard stock didn't and the ZKK 602 'hog back' stock did.

I do have a couple of old advertisements for the Brno ZKK's, but neither show the reverse view of the stocks. As Hunter4752001 says there was the 'standard' stock and the monte carlo stock. The monte carlo stock as in the image above would be the most logical style to suit a cheek piece whereas the standard stock style does not look as though it would have a cheek piece, I myself had a ZKK 30-06 with the standard stock and no cheek piece, had been re-barreled to 6.5-06 as per image below.

Thanks for the response but it resembles the ZG41/Model 21 cheek rest stock but the receiver and barrel dates are relatively late.
Steve.

Definitely not a Montecarlo stock. It has a flat comb but a straighter stock(less drop) than the Model 21 I have. Regardless, I will buy it, as I like the style and the rifle, just hope an acceptable price can be negotiated.

If, and hopefully when I get it, I will post a few pics to see what every one thinks.
Steve

Now that it is mentioned, I recall my schnabble forend was accompanied by a straight comb, thus no cheek piece.

G'day Steve. Not sure if your priority is to keep it original or to have cheek piece functionality. If the later, Hatchers Rifles Stocks (now in based in Qld) make an Classic English Sporter style stock for the ZKK 600.

Thanks, I am aware of Hatchers and know they have nice stocks for classic rifles.

At this stage will be keeping the stock as it just feels and looks correct. Right finish, chequering and colour simply trying to determine if it is an original.
Cheers
