indeed

an interesting combination gun, think the 3" is the common version but it would be a handloading gun anyway

And I was going to say normally the 3" uses a 750 gr and the 2 3/4" a 650 gr and am instantly proven wrong.

Nice old hammer cape gun.

So Rolf Babnicks modern Greener Empire Cape gun conversion in 12-bore and .577 2 3/4" has some historical precedent. I always thought a 12b and the hefty .577 unlikely, unless one was pot shooting pheasant and wild cock in an Indian jungle where a tiger, gaur or rogue elephant might be stumbled onto. If ones gun bearer fled!

The choice of the .577 however was to fit better the large action of the 12-bore.

Back in 2004 I thought the price was high ... Now I wish ... Though it is just a cape gun.

Black P loads: 160 gr BP, 520 copper tubed or 560 gr solid lead bullet for 1725 / 1650 fps
3”:
Nitro Express load: 100 gr smokeless, 750 gr jacketed for 2050 fps
Nitro for Black loads: 75 gr smokeless, 570 gr or 650 gr solid or copper tubed metal based lead bullet for 1900 / 1850 fps

Interesting that the resulting velocity of the two cartridges is so different.

NfB Each with 570 gr bullet and 75 gr smokeless:
2.75 = 1650 fps
3.00 = 1900 fps

Am I reading this wrong?

That's what the ballistic tables on pages 93 - 94 of the 1925 Kynoch catalog listed.

The ballistics given in a post1923 ICI / Kynoch catalog just add to the confusion:

I believe Marrakai and Mickmuded a 650 gr in their .577 2 3/4" NfB Fatboy. I'm thinking the velocity was about 1800 fps in handloads? It will be on these forums somewhere.m
