I just paid advance payment for classic Savage Model 23 B in .25-20 WCF. IMO quite cheap because it will cost me 100€. I do not have any photo of just that rifle but it´s in quite good condition and looks very similar as this:
It also could be very possible that I´ll buy an another barrel for it and caliber would be .218 Bee.

Congrats, that's a great purchase...hopefully the barrel will be just fine...
I have always here the .218 Bee can be very finicky as to accuracy..I have never had one so can not confirm. Only what I have read...

Good buy, Igorrock. I had one of those in .218Bee for a short while. I don't remember why I sold it???
Could be if it was in .25/20, I'd have kept it, just because,
86gr. at about 1,380fps and 60gr. HP's at 1,800fps.
I guess it's just the "cool" factor.

Daryl, I just think .218 Bee could be like "poor mans" .22 Hornet which caliber is quite popular among finnish hunters who use barking dog. I have read this caliber could be a bit difficult to reload but possible with Hodgdon Lill' Gun powder.

Good one for the young kids to learn on after stepping up from a .22LR
Let us know what she does when you get it home!
Another barrel in .218 bee sounds very interesting as well - good little cartridge!

Friend of mine here in Darwin started a "collection" of the Savage Model 23 rifles several years ago.
Believe it or not, the .22 versions are the hardest to track down in Oz. He acquired the Model 23A just last year, and still hasn't found an unmolested 23AA to complete the set of five.
Igorrock: Bit of a task rebarreling a Model 23 as the action and barrel are a single unit!
They're a great little classic in their own right and if the bore is good you will not be disappointed. Congrats!

I would suggest more normal, older powders, Igorrock. We found Lil'Gun to be absolutely marvelous in the Ruger #1's chambered in the .218Bee, but they can operate at much higher pressures than the .218Bee was originally loaded to, which were safe in the rifle you have. The little Savage and Winchester early bolt guns lack the strength I feel, necessary for Lil'Gun to burn well. It prefers pressures in the 50,000PSi range or higher.
I fully expect loads that approximate factory ammo would be best, ie: 46gr. at about 2,860fps. This is 100fps higher than US made ammo for the Hornet and 3-400fps higher than Eu. Hornet ammo, I think.
The slower burning pistol powders are best, I think, like the old W296 or H110 (which are actually the same powder). I do not now the European equivalents.

I always kind of wanted one in 25/20, but I shoot scoped and it just seems a little wrong to scope on of them

Yes they are all one unit, barrel and action. An acquaintance had one which was stored in a farm shed for decades and had had a hornet's nest deep down the barrel. The barrel was a little rough where that was. Looks like the same rifle as your picture.

My first ever rifle, owned since boyhood, was a Savage Model 1911 .22 Short given to me by the previous owner, my Dad! It fed from a double tube-magazine through the buttstock. It was made the same way as the 23A. Killed a million birds'n'bunnies with that little gem until the chamber eventually wore so much the fired cases looked like little brass wine-barrels and the extractor would no longer engage the rim!

I have a 23 in 25-20. What a wonderful little rifle. Mine is a tack driver with everything I’ve tried. Hornady 60 grain, Speer 75 grain, Remington 86 grain and a couple of different cast bullets. I just got another in 22 K Hornet but need to get it to the range. I expect it will shoot just as well.

From memory they have a couple of screws in the top of the action. Presumably for some sort of sights or mounts.

Now I have got my rifle home. It´s version 23 B-C i.e. it´s the next versin of the rifle pictured above. The main two differences are stocks model and magazine. It´s mechanically in good condition but someone has made square through holes both end of the stock for sling, quite similar way as old military Mosins used to have. Now I pondering what to do with them....
