Tell me about the Aminus pump action "AR" please
      #332494 - 18/09/19 10:18 AM

Just saw some idiot in NZ claim AR15 semi autos can easily be converted into pump action rifles, making them legal, and easily converted back again ... to my knowledge not at all???

But they used an Animus pump action "AR" as video "proof" of it ....

Now I am NOT really interested in the politics at all.

Tell me about the Animus pump action rifle. And any other makes similar to it.

Any Aussie know if they are legal in Australia? Especially in states, like SA, where there is not "military style appearance" firearms bans or restrictions?

I believe I read Firearms police do give some problems to people wanting to acquire one?

Are they imported into Australia?

Non-Aussie questions.

Have you used one? What do you think? Are they accurate?

I believe the Aminus can exchange a lot of parts with the AR and is a clone in a lot of ways?

What chambering choices are there?

Now I am thinking of course of 5.56 NATO, and .300 Blackout? What about 7.62x39? That might solve another problem for me? Who would need a crappy AIA if a nice AR styled 7.62x39 could be acquired?

Can barrels be readily changed or exchanged?

With the chambering choices above, would they work for the same rifle, ie the 5.56/300 AND the 7.62x39? Would a different bolt, magazines, whole rifle need to be changed over?

Some questions here might be dumb. Never owned an AR style rifle.

Reality check, is of course whether the Stasi would allow one ... I think it would drive them to seek safe places ...

The Animus

The Animus is an AR-15 upper that converts an AR-15 from semi-auto to pump action.

First I’ve heard of it. Seems like a pretty simple modification to use solid rod welded into the gas key to push/pull on the carrier. I would be concerned with the small diameter of the rod, seems it would be easy to buckle under load in a stuck case/round situation. You could open up the pass thru in the upper for a larger rod though.

I see the Aminus is an replacement upper for an AR. Allowing it to be converted to a pump action rifle.

I have been told numerous times since enquiring, that these are impossible to import into Australia. The lowers are ARs. And even though it is a pump action, it looks like an AR15 was an evil banned gun.

On the other hand there are two Aussie makers of AR style pump actions in Australia. Prices are quite high.
