That's an old box. Must be a paper hull. I had not noticed the "Nitro Express" moniker either.

Damn, I have had a .410 Nitro Express double rifle since I was TEN. And didn't know it! First gun I used was an old hammer side by side .410 shotgun. Elephants here I come.
Bloody marketing gonzoes. As bad back then as now.

Those projectiles are a whole 87.5gns of dynamite! Would be good for a dingo at close range, or a rather small pig. The old 410, wonderful pigeon gun!

Many of us in BC use .410's, singles or bolts, mostly, for grouse - on the ground or sitting in trees. I like the 2 1/2" #6's as they pattern well enough to hit flying birds. The 3" are not good in my gun - next to useless as they have too small a killing circle at 25 yards (6") and too large a wounding circle, 3' due to the damaged pellets from too long a shot column. The the 1/2oz 6's, I get about an 18" killing pattern, which works well for me.

I have a bolt action Mossberg .410. Three down in the magazine. My first gun, dad bought it for me in about 1957.
Has an adjustable choke. Long barrel.
With three down does it qualify as a "Proper" DGR?
I recall the "Nitro" shotshells. Might have been 12 ga.

Have any of you chaps seen these? Apparently they were still manufactured up till 1990s. I bought a lot just to see what up. May disassemble, and use the brass in my Biakal SxS 410

Roger that!, but I want to see if I can trim the case and use them in my 410 SxS, and melt down the round ball for other casting. I am not really to sure how much pressure there is in those with cordite.

"These rounds cannot be used in a standard .410" smooth bore shotgun since the musket ball loaded at the mouth of the case is actually larger than diameter of the case itself. "
The round ball weighs about the same as the .410's loaded with 1/5th ounce slugs here. I seriously doubt they develop any higher pressures than any normal .410 shotshells.
Here, the velocity is toted as being 1,810fps iirc.
I have heard of guys shooting .44 mags. in their .410's.
I would not try that, BTW - grossly undersized in the head.
.444 marlin makes good .410 'brass' for tight patterning 1/2oz shot loads. It would also work for .410" bullets in a rifled choke - almost did that one myself as a test. Couldn't get my buddy to offer up his .410 SxS for the trial.
.409" pure lead ball weighs 109gr.

It was a Baikal I wanted to rifle the right-hand tube on. If successful, I was going to do the left one two. Double paradox .41 3". A 3" WW hull will hold 80gr. 1 1/2F Swiss, a wad and nice RN or SWC .410" cast bullet - roll crimped.

Sound like a good idea...If you look at the breech thickness, I wonder what else they barrel/chamber these 410 for? Even the thickness just ahead of the chamber where most of the early pressure spike is. Nice guns once they loosen up a bit....The new version MP43 has ejectors as standard.

Yes. The SMLE smooth bore single shots used exactly the normal .410 shotgun shells.

Still working on it but delayed a few years. I have a single bbl .410 3 " chamber, funny a .357 mag round uses with some powders any way, the same charge as the 3 " .410 with it's much heavier shot charge ..... I have a bit of .41 mag pistol barrel threaded to the end of the .410 about 4 inches. Have had some encouraging results using .357 powder charge and 225 gn lead .41 mag slugs - pressure still way under problem levels. With time this will translate to the .410 equivalent of the paradox, heavy for bore projectile at still moderate velocity, my chrono was on loan at the time so no velocity data yet but expecting to get at least 1500 with the 225 gn bullet through the rifled section of the choke with good grouping. Will repost when I get some concrete results and pics.

Says long range on the shell. How versatile
