Männlicher Schönauer 1905 by Holland & Holland
      #286195 - 07/08/16 05:38 PM

Dear All

I resend this post as I failed to attach photos in the first instance.

Some photos of a Holland & Holland Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1905:
- Holland & Holland confirmed that they built this rifle in 1908.
- Caliber .400.375 belted Holland & Holland, still manufactured by Kynoch.
- No Austrian proof markings, only British ones.
- Other markings of interest:
o On the knox form: Holland’s Patent
o On the barrel: Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond Street, London
- Stock with rounded pistol grip, horn butt plate, horn fore end, and no check piece.
- Express-style rear sight with two folding leaves for 200 and 300 yards.
- Total length 114 cm (45 inches), barrel length 62 cm (24 inches), weight 3,5 kg (7 pounds).

I have also added a photo for comparing size and shape of .375 belted H&H, .400.375 belted H&H and 9.5x57 MS (from left to right).

Does any of you have any experience to share about hunting with and/or reloading .400.375 belted Holland & Holland ammunition?

Best regards.

Louis

Wow ...very nice indeed. You're very lucky to have it.

Do you hunt with it?

What a beautiful rifle in great condition. Lovely stock and front sight, great interesting caliber.I have to say that I find the English Mannlichers especially nice. Well done.

Waidmannsheil & Lonewulf, thank you. No I have not yet hunted with this rifle as it is a quite recent acquisition, however I will for sure go hunting with it. The .400.375 caliber should perform well on European red dear and on similar sized game, on the same way the 9.5x57 MS does. Best regards. Louis

The only thing that would make that rifle better is if it were mine.

Lovely rifle! FYI the 1997 Feb-March issue of "Handloader" has an article on this cartridge including how to form brass from 240 Weatherby and loads.

Louis,
PM and E-mail sent. BTW I have a MS 1910 in 375 rimless, very similar cartridge, most often I shoot the 235gr Speers in it.
Best.

Dear All

I post the photos again; I had deleted them on Photobucket as I thought that photos - once downloaded, were saved on the Forum's server.

Some photos of a Holland & Holland Mannlicher Schoenauer Model 1905:
- Holland & Holland confirmed that they built this rifle in 1908.
- Caliber .400.375 belted Holland & Holland, still manufactured by Kynoch.

Best regards.

Louis
