DORLEAC .404 Jeffery Rimless rifle on an Original Mauser mag
      #272509 - 02/11/15 04:03 AM

Built for a very patient NE Forum member, a classic .404 Jeffery Rimless constructed on an Original Mauser n°19 magnum action of the late thirties.
That rifle has been built as a working one, not for show.
Emphasizing the strength to the figure, we have used a very dense French walnut blank from Tessier (1976) with good flowing grain.
A ZEISS "Victory" HT 1.1–4x24 is claw mounted with the rear base embedded in the square bridge while the front base is silver soldered on the barrel rear portion.
Notice also that we had to make a new trigger using a Recknagel base and that after the photos were shot the sight leaves have been regulated and now lie flush.
We welcome you comments.

Best to all.

Joel, as always a beautiful rifle.

Lovely and svelte, no excess wood. What is the weight?

Why did you replace the original trigger? I have a magnum mauser actioned rifle (375H&H) built 1913 with a modified original trigger that is fine. Always curious with trigger mods.

I would love to add that to my gun safe!

Now THAT is a nicely filled and finished stock. A bit of pumice or rotten stone is you like a more subdued, softer finish.

Stunning rifle.

Now I want to work out who "HK" is on these forums?

Can I ask why the 'sharp' line of wood after the bolt release?

I like the mounts too.

One day I would like to pay you a visit, Joel, and get a rifle of my own made by you.

Always beautitul pieces of a gunmakers art.

PS I was recently feeling like I was in a Dorleac withdrawal, having not seen one on the forums for a while.

Stunning rifle. I don't think anyone could improve on the lines and that includes all the pre-war makers from Britain, Germany and the US as well as Hartmann and Weiss. Just a beautiful timeless look in my opinion.

NitroX, Igorrock,
About the sharp line after the bolt stop, on the photo the shadow makes it looking more severe than when you get the rifle in hands. It’s a D&D gitzmo to do the transition between the magazine box belly and the grip.
As you have noticed we don’t like to let too much wood, only what it’s required.
Rockdoc,
We prefer to use Recknagel all steel adjustable trigger system as a basis we modify to obtain a crisp and perfect let-off. While they offer a magnum (elongated) trigger we use a standard assy with a hand made trigger that fit at the rear of the trigger guard.
Under recoil that kind of arrangement prevents the finger to stumble over the magazine release.

Joel, thank you for the explanation. It is a very nice looking trigger, and properly aft.

What safety is that? It looks nice and retains the shape of the bolt shroud, which I like.

Cheers, Chris

M. Dorleac, Congratulations once more on another superlative creation. I know that you understand what striving for perfection is. We can never achieve it, and very few have the vision and skill to approach it. You are among that elite when it comes to the marriage of wood and metal and capturing the essence of the quintessential English Big Game Rifle. Thank you for sharing this with us.

A simply gorgeous rifle! And, the owner's patience has been rewarded much as if he would have waited for a fine wine to mature! Congratulations to friend and gun artist, Joel, and to the rifle's owner for his fine taste!

Hope to see pictures and accounts of success with it in the field, in the future!

I have hastily taken some bad photos from the .404 coming back from a test session at the range.
Sorry it has not been yet cleaned and sports oily traces on the stock and buttplate…!
We will redo the nitre blue on the extractor blade and fully control all details before shipping it to its new owner.

Regards to all.

Absolutely stunning, as we have all come to expect, and no doubt it works as well as it looks but, unless you wear a Savile Row suit to work, I don't think most of us would consider it a working gun.

Not that I wouldn't be willing to give it a try
