Varget is considered a little too fast for the Rigby cartridge, not a problem in itself because pressures are low in such a big case, but it leaves too much air-space in the case. Better to stick with H4350.
Hope this helps.

thanks marrakai for the reply, lve talked to people who are using it ,they have said there was no problem with it either but better safe than sorry so l emailed hodgons about it and havent heard back yet,but l have been using sc 4831 with some amazing accuracy, the reason l was asking about varget since l live in central british columbia, and varget seems to be so insensitive to temperatures, and l have lots on hand for other calibers l shoot.

out of couriosity, have you tried H4831, and if so, how much more (if any) SC are you able to get into the case? Proportionally speaking?

hello new guy,l havent done that, since the first load l tried with the sc 4831 was just a bang, dead on load from the first and l ran out of h 4831 quite a while ago .but a new 416 rigby norma brass will take a 121 grains of sc4831 ,l hope this helps some?

bullcoon:
It would appear from the Hodgdon website that they are marketing the Australian ADI-manufactured powders as the new 'Extreme' range. All the ADI powders are made the same way as Varget, and share its temperature-insensitivity. I don't have the ADI/Hodgden equivalents to hand (lunch-hour at work!), but someone here will post them. There will be a more suitable powder for the Rigby in the 'Extreme' line, but that won't help you with your Varget glut!

Hodgdon 'Extreme' Powders

Cheers

I used Varget (ADI 2208) in the 416 Weatherby with 400 grain Hornadies and from memory used 90 grains. It was very accurate and pressures were mild.

The pressure would be a bit higher in a 416 Rigby with the same load because the case is a little smaller and the 416 Wby has slightly more freebore.

You can get suprising levels of accuracy from the powders in the Varget/4064/4895 burn rate in these big cases.

In my kast 460 Wby 85 grains of IMR 4064 and 500 grain Hornadies did just over 2000 f/s and with excellent accuracy. Pressure extremely mild considering a top load with 4064 is in the 104 to 106 grain area with 500s.

No fillers were used

Mike

I had great luck using RL22 and 400g Hornady bullets.

thanks for all the input guys , its much appreciated and l always welcome more if you have any ?l have to give credit to the makers of varget as its been one powder that lm really stuck on now and have applied it to several calibers with excellent results and living here with the temperature fluctuations of -50 in the winter and up to +75 in the summer,l dont have to worry about drastic pressure spikes.
