Zi-Di rifle in 6.5 x 5.2
      #258438 - 01/01/15 05:55 AM

I have a Zi-Di rifle in 6.5 x 52 which I posted about a few years ago in an attempt to learn what cartridge the rifle is chambered for. The consensus from xausa and others was .25 Remington. Fast forward a few years and I've acquired some NOS remington ammo in .25 Remington. The ammo chambers perfectly in my Remington 30-S. It also fits the clip and feeds perfectly in the Zi-Di, but the bolt won't quite turn down.

Stupid question - am I risking anything by exerting a little more muscle and forcing the bolt to close? Could the chamber be cut so tight that some brands of ammo will fit and others won't? (i have this issue in a vintage G&H in .404. It likes RWS solids and original Kynoch, but not Norma or Kynamco).

FYI - the Zi-Di has a Mauser type bolt handle but it is placed well forward like a Greifelt.

Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks

This is what I would do. I would pull the bullet from one of those cartridges and remove the powder. Then I would try to chamber it, using a REASONABLE amount of force to close the bolt. If it doesn't close - go back to square one. But if it closes, I would extract it. I would look at it closely to see where it is meeting resistance. I would load it with a small amount of powder and a wax plug. Then I would put it back in the chamber and fire it. Whatever the chambering, it would fire-form your case so you would know for sure.

I have multiple rifles in the same caliber and it is not uncommon for rounds to chamber in one gun but not another. I would use a bit more force to chamber the round, just check to make sure your primers are not setting high. If that didn't work I would remove bullet and powder and run the case up in a sizing die. Adjusting the die down a bit at a time should get it to chamber-- if the rifles really are the same caliber.

Thanks both for the sound advice. I tried a little more force, as much as I dared, and still the bolt wouldn't close. Next step will be to fire the round in the 30-S and see if the spent cartridge will chamber in the Zi-Di. The ammo is vintage Remington Core-Lokt with 117 gr round nose. Maybe the Zi-Di will like a different bullet. It's a sweet little cartridge by the way. Should be great for turkey and other critters up to whitetail deer. I'd now like to have one of the Remington pumps in this chambering and am researching what other factory rifles were built in .25 remington.

the very classic Remington Model 8 was made in .25

DWM load the 6,5x52 and the 6,5x52R(25-35 WIN) before the war so it must have some popularity also in europe but not for the FN made version of the Rem.8 because the FN semiauto sporting guns were only made in 35 Rem.,iirc.

1935 DWM catalog

BTW, Ziegenhahn have the complete records about guns over SN 427 made in 1928
