my pleasure!

if I had more time for such things would go deeper into muzzle loader shooting and hunting. so its just enough lifetime to clean the black powder breech loader.

I use the internet bidding when I cannot get to the auction itself

I bid on the 4 barrel and thought I had it when it came up as "sold to the internet"

When I telephoned them to pay I was told another internet bidder had put the same bid in 0.35 of a second earlier!!!

Most p......d off I would have gone much more for such an interesting item

This is an interesting French rifle, with both flintlock and percussion ignition - something I have never seen.

http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=7239984

There is also an automatic translation into German but this is more funny than informative

give it a try with the google translator
"Rare French hunting rifle of "Devisme patented in Paris" with flint and percussion, one shot, caliber 17.5 mm. Strong barrel patinated, striped, round, with thunder pans, signed on the tape "Devisme Patented in Paris". Platinum front signed and flat dog. Very rare system of firing, both flint and percussion, certainly a private order around 1840. Trim chiselled iron. Crosse was short, partly walnut checkered and enhanced with gold nails. Original iron rod and nickel silver on the tip to protect the scratches. Alas it misses this original rise to slip. Length: 118 cm Barrel length: 79,1 cm Very good condition! Around 1840. Louis-François, Alexis and Fabrique DEVISME: founded in 1834. Numerous French and Belgian patents, 1854-1860. Exhibition of Paris in 1839 I remain at your disposal for all other information ..." make sense

the combination of percussion and flint look make its very unique! can't remember such a system before

the checkering combined with nails was ala mode in the early 1830s

here on a very early Dreyse needle fire double gun

I too have never seen such a thing, lovely rifle, would be most interesting to try here out. I like the idea of the redundancy if you run out of caps, go back to flint. I imagine that was the idea of this system.

My guess as well, Gordon.

I have seen a conversion to cap with the upright blade of the frizzen cut off and a nipple screwed into the rounded "top" of the frizzen's pan cover.

The pan could be lifted by the nipple and primed to ensuring ignition.

There was a cap-lock hammer nose held in the slightly altered jaws of the flintlock's cock.

and one more Ischler Stutzen from Leithner, this one a muzzle loader, ca. 1860.
Leithner obviously created a fashion and stuck to it

Lancaster - I missed the post in March of the conversion to pinfire from muzzle loader

These conversions are most interesting, I have a 4 bore shotgun converted by Greener myself

Many thanks for posting
