Dream Rifle...

but lets say the rifle had been on a 21 days safari, dosen`t mean it has to look used!

i mean if you go to a safari, you look after it, i never treat my weapons as a tool.

when i am going to africa with my 500 NE, im not gonna let it touch the ground or a tree

just gone be safely in my hands or in my lap hehehe

even with 6 kg weight i didn't want to shoot more than 2 rounds.
but its very much different when an elefant or a buffalo is charging!!

but this i never expierenced with this rifle:-)))

I had to crawl commando style to get close to my Wildebeest. My double rifle got some scratches and dirty, but was well worth the chance to get 30 feet away.

Feinejagdwaffen,

That is truly a beautiful piece of workmanship.
I work in the African bush, I see the big 5 every day, and when it comes to engravings or even just paintings and art work, I am very fussy with what makes the grade or not. It HAS to be realistic. The work on your rifle is excellent and very realistic.

If an engraver can't produce a realistic looking animal or scene he should just stick to scrolls. It is too much work and too much expense to get it wrong, and it brakes my heart to see a beautiful DR ruined by bad work.

But yours is beautiful :-)

I hope you get many years of service and enjoyment out if it.

Pete.

I have a very similar .577 NE 3" on the way from Heym. The engraving is also by Michael Richter, and very similar to this .600 NE. The following are some pictures. The rifle should be in my hands within two months. It has 25" barrels, a 15.25" LOP, and is set to be built weighing not less than 14 lbs:

Thing that makes me want a .600 is the shape of those solids.. Big flat things with a nice radius. Beautiful.

My Michael Richter engraved .577 NE 3" has arrived. This is a Heym Jumbo sidelock. It weighs 14.25 lbs., has 25" barrels, and a 15.25" stock length. I am pleased with it. Cheers. Chip.

Like everyone else, I believe, I was stunned by the quality of the engraving shown in the first rifle, the "Elephant Stopper". However, when I saw the photos of the second rifle with apparently identical engraving I began to suspect that what we are seeing is actually some sort of photoengraving or etching. Of course, I have no way of verifying my suspicion one way or the other, but I wonder if anyone has actually seen this engraver at work in the process of producing these photographic quality images.

xausa: I see your point. I haven't yet compared the two sets of engraving side by side and in detail, but no doubt, they are, at the least, very similar. Should they turn out to be done by any other means than by hand, I will be extremely upset. I paid a good deal of money, and waited a very long time to have this work performed. I would be surprised to see a reputable company like Heym misrepresent themselves in this way. Cheers. Chip.

Just checking the left ear of the elephant and the dark indentations near the top, shadows, folds in the skin are very similar but to my eye on my screen, are not identical. The .600's elephant has a longer middle indentation. It appears the pattern was copied, but a photocopy - or engineered machine copy.
The folds, shadows and indentations are seemingly, not identical and would be if not cut by hand.

Daryl S: I printed out photos from the elephant engravings on both rifles. In addition to what you noted, I saw that the tusks on the larger elephant on the .577 protrude from it's flanks, where they do not on the .600. Additionally, both elephants have their trunks curled around. On the .577, the nostril is pointed to the left, whereas the elephant on the .600 has his nostril facing us. I speculate that Michael Richter may have used the same image as a model when he was engraving each of these guns.....but, I agree.....it looks like they were done by hand. Cheers. Chip.

So I just took posession of my second Heym. This time a sidelock with 2 barrel sets. One in .375 Flanged Magnum, and the second in .450 NE 3 1/4".

I asked for some engraving work and I must say, it is beyond spectacular!! The engraver's signature is M. Richter. I ordered scenes based on some examples, and the reproduction is excellent, but not "identical". This man is incredibly talented to say the least!!

I have examined the work in detail using a watchmaker's magnifying glass headset, and the workmanship is absolutely stunning!!! It is also very much done by hand, the scenes very close to the examples I chose but most certainly NOT identical as far as I can tell.
