450 express reamer
      #236736 - 16/10/13 06:30 AM

I may have a need for a 450x3 1/4 reamer. Looking at a rifle that, if it works out, the chambers are a little rough, and tight, so a cleanup may be necessary. Anyone know of a finish reamer I could rent/ borrow?
Thanks, Doug

I've used the 4D rental and it was a very nice sharp reamer.

Thanks, Mike! If this deal goes thru, I'll try to find someone who is able to post some pics--

Steve Bertram should be chambering a 450NE for me soon, maybe he already has.
I think he rents the reamers but he may own one. I am not sure.

You can email them to me and I'll post them for you. Make sure that you do a 'show and tell about the Turner also!

Well, all kinda went to heck! Picked up the Purdey, with the understanding that if all was not well I could return for full refund. All was not well! Chambers were my first indication- looked dented from the inside, for lack of a better description- kinda lumpy. On detailed cleaning I discovered cracks on both sides of the receiver, where the top point of the locks met the frame, traveling upward towards the firing pin bolsters, or nipples. Hard to see, but one side was actually growing verdigris, which is what tipped me off.

Now, I will say the dealer had this on consignment, and I seriously doubt had any indication of the trouble, and will refund in full.

My assessment is that someone used full nitro loads in this old BP rifle, and- barely- got away with all their parts! What a huge shame!! A beautiful Purdey perfect bores, great wood, and provenance to boot, now just scrap!

I hope that your return of the Purdey to the seller gets you all your money back and then you can find a lovely rifle as you want.

When I read your first post some time back, I said to myself: "Self, this is not going to be a happy ever after story."

Too bad it all went that way. I have a feeling there will be at least one person more disappointed than you in this mess...

Returned for full refund. The dealer was doubtful at first, and took it in the back and completely disassembled it. Came out with the receiver in hand, and the crack(s) started at the top of the locks, both sides, and traveled almost completely across the rear of the receiver. The two cracks did NOT meet in the middle, but actually bypassed each other in the middle! The buttstock, due to perfect inletting, did not split at all! Truly amazing! Guess this has to be a museum piece now, so it will never be fired. I wonder if even Purdey could fix this?

That's a crying shame! But at least you got a full refund.

I doubt that even Purdy has a lifetime warranty like Searcy has. Tis' a pity.

I hope that the dealer will grind off the firing pins and weld the holes closed to de-activate that rifle for prevention of possible future problems.

Doug, don't worry about the Turner...
He has a buddy to hang out with!
