Less so for the Henry than the H&H I think.

There is also a Westley

I wish they had showed the top of the action
on the Westley.

I have a similar one but with 23" barrels.

I do not think the auction house has correctly described the caliber of the Westley, and if they have described it correctly, the ammunition being sold with the rifle is incorrect for that rifle.

imho the Henry is perfect

13DJ-1 ALEX HENRY DOUBLE RIFLE
Alexander Henry double rifle with Jones under lever type release in .450 – 400 3 ¼” express caliber. Serial number 1581. The rifle is proofed for black powder loads and shows a 29” barrel and is nearly 46” overall. The bottom of the frame is engraved converted by D & J Fraser. Both the lock plates and barrels show Alex Henry signature. The barrels retain 75% to 85% of their original brown finish with good patterning to the steel and the barrels some slight loss at the edges. The rifle has been fitted with later front and rear sights that are neatly done and probably by British gunsmith. The locks and frame show 50% to 70% case hardening drifting to silver and is still colorful. The trigger guard shows strong traces of original blue as does the lever. The frame and lever mounts are all nicely engraved matching to the pistol grip cap which shows most of his original blue finish. The action is very tight and the gun locks up perfectly. The bores are bright and the rifle has seen little use. The stocks are a select walnut with good grain showing crisp checkering. The stocks are in fine condition and the butt stock measures 14 ¾” from the front trigger to the end of the metal butt plate. A very nice condition double rifle by an excellent maker. Also included is an associated leather over Oak box lined in red felt which was not originally made for this rifle but has been with it along while and is a British product of the correct era. Est. $6,000-$12,000.

The patina of that action looks just like a BP gun I used to own.

Then H&H is a sealed bid sale with a $13,500 minimum!

I wonder what it is that the Fraser Bros. did for this conversion on the Henry?

Nice to see the hammer sidelock from Alexander Henry - I would love to have it in hand.

A lightweight? rifle in that calibre would be very nice with excellent engraving, truly a keeper

Agree with Lancaster, it appears perfect - bolted locks as well as all the above

Despite the price difference, I would prefer it to the H&H !!

Thanks for the pics - good to see

dont forget the pic of the brown bear shot with this double rifle. 10,75x70R cartridges of the lot Harald Wolf made fore this double rifle in the early 1990s are still available on the cartridge collector market.

You just do not need 10,75x70R to kill a brown bear, last year here in Finland passed away a man who killed local big grown-up bear with one shot .22 LR....

A .22LR in the ear at 50 yds will do for most things on the planet, not something I´d choose as a stopper though , best

Returning to the original post about the Alexander Henry (I could not resist another drool!) and AK Mike's question about Fraser's conversion I had a thought (dangerous at my age!)

The conversion would most probably have been from percussion, the beautiful fences [classic percussion], the central firing pins and the hammerless sidelocks - rare on later Alexander Henrys, are the major clues

I have several photographs of such conversions, some in Donald Dallas' books and they are excellent examples of the gunmaker's art
Many top [and not so top] makers offered this service. I would love to know exactly how it was done

Thats a fab looking .470 / .375 combination double rifle and really great value for money, however...I would be a bit wary of that highly figured stock...looks great, but might not be so strong in the wrist!

That´s why there is those lower and upper tang extensions. And maybe a steel bar inside pistolgrip too....

You mean the strap over comb ?

Would be interested in a stock makers view on it.
