Hi, I'm a new member but I have been reading the forums on and off for awhile. I'm trying to find information about the subject double rifle maker. Anyone know where to look for the information or have copies of their case labels, etc.? Thanks.

Try www.centuryarms.com.au for case labels.

Galazan's have an extensive range of trade labels, but probably not C.W. Andrews, since they seemingly made very few guns. I have only ever seen one - 450/400 NE double rifle. AFAIK, Boothroyd does not mention Andrews in any of his books,

In Nigel Brown's book "London Gunmakers", the following addresses and periods of residence are given;

CW ANDREWS, 6 Winchester Street,EC, 1882-93
CW ANDREWS LTD, s.a. 1894-91; 5 and 6 Great Winchester Street, EC, 1901-13; 2 Bradford Ave., 1913-17

Thanks, Steve and .470.

I've purchased a couple of accessory items from Century before. He has some nice stuff.

I'm not familiar with Andrews but have an opportunity to buy one of their hammer double rifles. I was curious to find out about the company and the quality of it's rifles. This one appears to be a field grade gun that is solidly built and quite strong. Thanks, guys.

Terry

www.internetgunclub.com

Charles William Andrews commenced in business at 6 Great Winchester Street in 1882. In 1891 the firm opened a factory in Birmingham at 13 Bath Street, and became a limited liability company. In 1901 they occupied 5-6 Great Winchester Street, London, and in 1913 they moved to 2 Bradford Avenue. In 1914 the Birmingham factory moved to Barton Passage, Newhall Street, but it probably closed in 1915. The firm appears to have closed in 1917 but may have continued as Andrews Firearms and Accessories Co.

Hope this helps. This website has some information on obscure gunmakers in the UK. If you need any more information, just e-mail them to ask.

Best wishes,

Craig Boddingtons 470 is a CW Andrews, possibly made in the 1920's.

NE450#2, I'm quite new to double rifles and am trying to learn as much as I can. Who is Craig Boddington and how can he be contacted? Maybe he could give me some information about Andrews and his firearms. Thanks, for replying to my earlier post.

Craig Boddington writes magazine articles, and books on hunting and shooting. He is also on the Outdoor Channel.
You might try contacting some of the dealers of double rifles.

Bob, thanks for the address. It's an interesting site. I'm still looking for a way to contact him via email if possible. If someone discovers it, please let me know. I'd like to get his opinion on Andrews. Thanks, again.

Terry

There are photos of Boddington's Andrews 470 and a bit of a description in his book "Safari Rifles".
