Seems to be Belgian Anson DR made in Liège.
We have seen some Francotte following exactly the same construction.

It's possible ! Looks like my DR from A.Francotte . But i dont want to dismantle it to confirm that !

The gun is indeed a Francotte even though it bears the "Mahillon" name.
Any idea on time line or caliber?
There is a clue below.
It weighs 4.5kg i.e. 10lbs.

Mahillon was a seller.
Perhaps à .475 N°2, made at the beginning of the fifties.

The gravure are imho a little bit old fashioned . I say a 470NE from the late 20's or the 30' !

Actually Dorleac was very close to the caliber answer, but Grandveneur was closest for the date.
Dorleac wins the right to give me a deep discount on his inventory and GrandVeneur the right to give me an invitation to a hunt in Alsace.

Francotte 88159 is listed in the regular sources at 1936.
The proof marks concur (o):
The real find here is a photo of the ledgers that came with the weapon.
The rumor is that these ledgers are now probably lost for good.
These show among many other things that the engraveur (Cor) is likely Lyson Corombelle.

I did hesitate regarding the caliber , but for a boxlock rifle of 10lbs , presumed from the 20's or 30's , there is imho not much to choose between 450NE N°2 , 470NE or 475NE N°2 . I dont know if there are Belgian boxlock DR's 500NE . I saw only sidelock rifles of this caliber .

As seen on the ledger, the customer ordered it at 4.5kg max.
That's were it's at.
One can also see that the delivery was supposed to be March 30th, and they missed that as the gun was still worked on in April. However, it started in February, so that's not too shabby!
One could wait many years for a gun like this nowadays.
