because there was a very nice pre war mauser stock I thought that a 9,3x64 Brennecke would be a good idea.

and so I bought a 1973 Eduard Kettner/Köln "Modell Markgraf" made in Austria
I am sure now it was build by Voere/Kufstein http://www.voere.de/de/waffentechnik.html for Kettner.



ok, I am not a big fan of this 70ies style




Laufstahl 3 what ever this means , I hope it was their best quality




Hertel&Reuß 6x42 scope on claw mount










the action have a Voere made safety to block not only the trigger but also the special Voere bolt sleeve. the magazin is made from aluminium.
I going back to the orignal wing safety if anyone need this Voere parts.






the follower is made from solid brass






the action is marked with "Spain" so it seems this is not a FN action. did not know that Santa Barbara( ?) made actions without thumbhole.



here together with the M98 9,3x64 Kettner of a friend. you see how thin my barrel is. muzzle diameter of my rifle 14,9mm against the 16.9mm on my friends rilfe. its a lot and my barreld action weighs 500 gramm less. maybe some kind of kick stop is a good idea if I wish to shoot my rifle more than once.

Congrats to your new rifle ! I think you know that I have same caliber custom Husqvarna m246. It has little thicker barrel but one another thing which makes it weight to appr. 4,5 kg is heavy wood in stock. My rifles balance is allmost ideal, maybe you need to add some more weight to your buttstock.
I recomment that you would buy somewhere one good quality dense wood piece and make a modern straight comb stock to yours rifle. It gives weight and stock model helps to make the shooting more comfortable.
With my Husse I can shoot 5-6 RWS factory loads with 19g TUG without any big issue. Of course, Pachmayr´s Decelator recoil pad helps too...;-)

Don't forget Parker-Hale used Spanish Santa barbra actions with no thumb cutout:-





Fresh ou of the box 1200 Super in 7.92mm



P-H 1100 Deluxe in 30-06



P-H 1200V in 6mm Remington

All have faint "Spain" marking on the left side of the tang. I would appear that the customer could order different bolt hand profiles.

Edit:- Notice the similar way in which the serial numbers are stamped/rollmarked on yours and the Parker-Hales.

igorrock, the rifle was bought to have something for my old stock



so making a new one is a no-no

its more or less a fun project, probably you could make me a leather coverd recoil pad for this rifle.

Will look like a nice rifle with the new stock.

Thin wippy barrel. How does it shoot accuracy wise?

Some of these thin barrels still shoot well.

It will heat up quickly but with the 9.3x64 being equivalent to a .375 H&H you probably won't shoot a lot of shoots in one go anyway.

Tang safety too. Nice.

Good luck and good shooting with it.

I hope neither the one nor the other

it was build as a joy to carry but maybe being a pain to shoot also. I thinking that 500 gramm extra into the stock would be a good idea. should I buy a recoil mercury recoil suppressor?

Cut a lenght of stainless steel tube, fill it with shotgun loads tungsten balls and shut the both ends. It´s works reducing recoil as good as mercury one. Tungsten is heavier than led.

Lancaster, because of the considerable recoil of the 9.3x64 in the light barreled action, make sure you fit a recoil crossbolt to that old-new stock and have the action recoil lug tightly bedded against it. Otherwise you will end up with nicely splintered firewood in short order.

funny that the original stock had a crossbolt made of black plastik - no joke

do you know what Laufstahl 3 means kuduae? of course its the quality but who made this steal?

Following the Austrian proof laws, barrel material and wall thickness is given by the Önorm S 1205

Perhaps you´ll find more details if you have access to those prescriptions.

What actions did Voere use {98s] ? a friend of mine has an older model in 270 and i was impressed with it, and had a very smooth action and nice all over ,stock etc

Lancaster congrats on the new rifle. Looks good and I like your taste in stocks.

For what it is worth try and avoid the mercury recoil reducers. I say this simply because mercury is generaly not allowed on aircraft without special permission. Go with the tungsten idea or try the following link. I believe he ships internationaly and they do work.

I think it depends on
would imagine that they have use every available action over the times: military surplus, FN/ Belgium, Santa Barbara/Spain and maybe also more - czech and serbia made actions

thanks, I dont know that they not allowed mercury in planes. could it work as an explosive?
whatever, mercury is out now!

Lancaster, mercury likes aluminium. Likes it that much it dissolves it fairly quickly. I have seen the damage the mercury from a thermometer did to a passenger airliner. I can't remember if it was a 737 or DC9.

The reason mercury recoil reducers are likely to be discovered is most baggage is exrayed at some stage. Those recoil reducers that I gave the link to have a hole at both ends. now if the rifle was exrayed and customs did not believe you- though the x ray should show clearly what they are- take the butt pad off and they can see.

I have to tell you a story about a little mauser now that gots an happy end

you may remember something like this

a Eduard Kettner /Köln 9,3x64 Model "Markgraf" made by Voere in the 1970s


we dont knowing anymore what they were thinking then. my own theory is this

the original ring was changed by welding so I am in very good hope


last point to made was a rubber recoil pad and I thought that a leather covered one would be a nice thing to have. never down this before Igorrock was coming into my mind, you know it:


give it to your mom, its her job







the blank pad was cut to the stock dimension minus +/- 1,5mm for the leather with a working stock made of soft pine. igorrock told me that he was needing some kind of stock for the work and I have bad experiences with brocken stocks in post packages.



today I have got the pad back from Finland and it s good enough for me at least. I hope Igorrock have made some pics about the work step by step and can show it.

I suspect you make the leather wet before you stretch it over the pad and let it dry than. what will you do when having the original stock? you cant fix it than with staples.

Just use correct size grinded piece of plywood and piece of broom-stick attached to it. With that method you don´t staple the leather, just tighten it with cord round the stick. But if I have the original stock with me I have more ways to attach the pad to it´s place.
