What a shame. If your stock cracked with 10,75x57 loads (going by the cross bolts and what appears to be a repair behind the tang), the light B style stock on that one that's been reamed out to 10,75x68 probably won't last for many rounds. Shame. Neat rifles with great details and features. Yours looks to be especially crisp.

my rifle wasn't the best and it wasn't the worst. it was simply the first and only one with this chamber I found. was looking for a while and had also pay more for this rifle than I did to get it.
sad for anyone who looks for such a rifle like me before that this rifle is gone now. its Kulturbolschewismus!
the cartridge itself is very interesting because you can make cases from once fired 30 06 brass. so brass is for nothing if you compare it with the 10,75x68. the 10,75x57 gives a muzzle velocity of 620 m/sec with the 350 grains bullet. if you remember that the 10,75x68 fire the same bullet at 680 m/sec its very good. pre WW 2 DWM load a special light 10,75x68 again with the 350 grains bullet and a muzzle velocity of 610m/sec for european big game.

I am quite sure now that the rifle above was for sale last year for 2200 euro in 10,75x57. the price was to high and it did not sold so imho the owner invest at least 150 -200 euro to destroy the historical value. this story remember me on a Mannlicher Schönauer M 1905 in 9x56 last year. the seller was was very proud about the things he had changed for a lot of money including a new scope on a most modern scope mount that replaced the old 3 feet claw mount, new iron sights and and new trigger. he got less money for the bubba rifle than his inventions have cost him before.

there is just now another of the GECO /Kaba Mauser rifles in 10,75x57, great price

http://www.staffansvapen.se/vapen/begagnat/jaktvapen/kula/1075x57/gg-co-kaba.html

Gustav Genschow was holding shares on the firm Carl or Karl Bauer/ Berlin = Kaba. many but not all of this 10,75x57 Mauser Rifles and also some Geco Mauser rifles in 9,3x57 have also "Kaba" on the barrel. I believe that Kaba was the "Subdivision" which made the export of Geco stuff for some time.

I'll say it's a great price! 3500 Swedish Krona=$517.54 US. I doubt that it could be imported, however.

to make nails with heads I decided to make this THE Gustav Genschow/Kaba Mauser thread

what we knowing till now is that this typ of rifle was build in 10,75x57 and also in 9,3x57 for the swedish market in the earls 1930s

here we have again Bakpostens 9,3x57 Kaba serial number 3511 proof in 6 32

http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=208422&an=0&page=1#Post208422

this is the 10,75x57 model was for sale in Finland this year
serial number 1159

to make things complete the barrel of my own rifle in 10,75x57
number 1146 proof 6 31

just see it now that there was a another Gustav Genschow /Kaba in 10,75x57 for sale in germany by Matthias Lietzau

http://gallery.bestguns.de/main.php?g2_itemId=4083

looking very strange in the first moment serial number is 905 or 995 proof in 5 29
the stock is a made of beech wood what was the choise for cheap rifle's but having checkering on the forearm. looking on the bolt handle its clear this could not be the original stock. the buttplate is a typical Husqvarna made showing where this rifles was bought by the dealer. anyone knowing where the stock was coming from?

compared with the later made rifles this seems to be a basic model but the most important point is that this 10,75x57 is again a Genschow Kaba rifle.

hello rolf
waidmannsheil to your new rifle

do you have plans to change the stock for a period walnut stock with schnabel forend? it seems the original stock was brocken once and the swedish gunmaker take what he had in the shop. we allready have the most important information now: the date of proof. your rifle proofed in 1929 have a lot of similarity's but also some differences to the rifles proofed in 1931/1932.
same gunmaker or another? a basic model that was upgraded later with engravings because such little things sell better?
in which timeframe were the rifles made? was this the only rifle model in 10,75x57 made after WW 1( I believe this). when this is the case we have to assume that Geco was the only ammunition firm producing the 10,75x57!

a die set is on the way? ch4d?

Hello Lancaster,

Waidmannsdank for the "new" rifle!

stock:
I have no idea about the stock
- leaving it untouched?
- new stock for my body dimensions? (have to ask gunsmith master and stockmaker Mr. Hirschle in Blaubeuren/Ulm)
- or trying to locate an old stock for this rifle made during the same production period

- the rilfe has the Genschow name on the barrel and a small "KaBa" stamp on the side of the barrel

- ammunition?
did not locate any of the two possible cartridges (10,75x57 Mauser and 10,75x57 Mannlicher)

- die set: yes, on the way, from CH dies
I intended to use Prvi Partisan cartridge casings in caliber 8x60S for modification

reloading/testing:
- 300grs Degol SPRN (maybe a little hard)
- Reichenberg HDB in 280grs
- Delsing 347grs SPRN

best regards
Rolf

I would go for a period replacement stock they are to find with patience. had one laying around for nealy 10 years here but he married my 9,3 brennecke last summer.

the cartridge is only to get by cartridge collectors today and cost 70-80 euro and more for a single round.

follow a link in another thread I found another Geco/Kaba for sale in Norway thats very close to your rifle
http://www.beverensport.no/products/gustav-genschow-co-modell-98

serial number: 986
again a rifle in 10,75x68 that was probably rechambered in the past! the cross bolt was set when the rifle was rechambered but have no clue about the little screw in the stock over the trigger. maybe another little cross bolt?
the number is close to rolf's rifle and whats visible on the small pics having the same fore and rear sights. its only a fixes rear sight without the folding leaf rear sight we see on the later rifles. the design of the front sight is also very different.
the stock and especially the trigger guard looking like we know from rifle's with higher serial number.

the older and newly front sight:

the older and newly rear sight:

a quick look at the iron sights makes it easy to distinguish the two versions from each other

I found the rifle for sale in Norway now

http://www.beverensport.no/products/gustav-genschow-co-modell-98

in the 2004 Widforrs/Stockholm catalog where it was sold for 4200 swedisch krona - now 3531 norwegian krone. the rifle was also in 10,75x68 so the rechambering may be done before the 1990s when RWS stop making this round. the rifle was thean sold with a weaver 2,5 scope

december 2004

Tyskt, repeter, fabrikat: G.G. & CO. AG.,
kal. 10,75x68, tillvnr. 986, piplängd 63 cm,

the desciprion mention an additional rear sight leaf and when I look again at the pics it seems so.

serial number 1347 in 10,57x57 sold by Widforss in november 2006
thats the rifle I have now!

9,3x57, serial number 1206

another G. G. & Co., modell Kaba, kal. 9,3x57, number 1197 without a pic

a 10,75x57, number 1273

all three sold by Widforrs in may 2007

I think this is a swedish gunmaker modification of an original gustav genschow/kaba in 9,3x57 rechambered to 9,3x62, new stock, number 1207
sold by Widforrs in mai 2011

10,75x57 serial number 905
not sold in the may 2011 auction

thats the rifle forum member rolf buy this year

so the lowest serial number in 9,3x57 is 1197 but 9,3 and 10,75 mm rifles are in one range of numbers. the very high number of bakpostens rifle is a mystery!

      #221610 - 14/12/12 06:08 PM

thank you bakposten, that explain a lot

every known rifle till now have the serial number here

I will go into the facts about the Geco/ Kaba Mauser we know till now:
lowest number 905 proofed 5 1929 engraving and a least front sight design is different from later rifles
highest number with this features is 986

between 986 and 1146, proof 5 1931, there were a change. maybe because geco change the gunmaker or only the engraver and the barrel maker in Suhl/Zella Mehlis. maybe another unknown reason!
1159 is than the last rifle in 10,75x57 we have.

1197 and 1206 and also the reworked 1207 are in 9,3x57 and I have no doubt the rifles between will be chambered for the 9,3. maybe this was the first lot of the geco/kaba mauser for the swedish cartridge and it must be made around 1931.

1273 is still in 10,75x57

1347 in 10,75x57 proof 6 1931

and than there is a hooooooole

bakpostens rifle number 3511 proof 6 1932 but the serial number is not like on the other rifles

2200 rifles made in only one year but invincible! did they found one or more rifles in the white or parts for complete rifles in 1932, number and proof them. because its a geco/kaba serial number maybe the 2200 missing links were cheap rimfire rifles made by some else for geco and having this missing numbers.

the years 1931/32 were not the best, for nobody
it was the Great Depression

I am searching information about the 10,75x57 cartridge fror years and the Geco Kaba Mauser is the only known modell make in "masses" for this round. because of its shotgun style trigger guard its distinctive. I have only heard of one M 88 sporter and till now 4 Mannlicher Schönauer M 1912.

any information will be welcome

first modell, serial number 902
rechambered for the 10,75x68 with an older british style stock and advertised as an old pre war rifle I dont believe its very old as we see it now. the nice Zeiss Ziel 6 pre war scope on claw mount could be old but old parts and craftsman are around and I can duplicate it here in only one week and you would not see a difference. the Ziel 6 was an expensive scope before ww2 and it was the best avialble than world wide that makes it so rare and sought after today. for sale at 4600 euro in germany in march 2013 I would not say its a bad rifle or its a fake the dealer probably dont know it better but thanks to this little thread we know what it startet once.

more pics of the rifle number 1207, its for sale now in germany

as I predicted before this is a heavy modified 9,3x57. you can see on the barrel that "62" was stamp over the old "57".

I came in contact with the owner of the last rifle and was able to clear something. there is no doubt the barrel belonging to one of the geco/kaba rifle's once.

it was the rifle No 1144 that dont exist anymore now we presume

because of an unknown reason the barrel got another mauser 98 action and stock and the scope is on a contra claw mount.
