New 300 H&H Rifle Built by Joel Dorleac
      #198304 - 01/01/12 11:52 AM

My apologies to my friend Joel Dorleac for the delay in posting this picture. He sent me 15 pictures but only one came through in two attempts. I shall await the rest when he has time.

In his description (loosely translated from French):

These are pictures of a rifle recently completed while in the white. The rifle can be used with a choice of two scopes - a Swarovski Z6 2.5-15x44 as shown, or a 3.5-14x42 Leica. The rifle accepts both perfectly.

The barrel is a Heym finished at 26". The action is a Mauser modified for the 300 H&H with a magnum magazine and a Deeley tilt lock closure.

The rifle was built to evoke the classic English Plains Game rifles but adapted to shoot naturally with a scope. Please note how the scope mounts low for a Mauser and how we have mounted the rings as far apart as possible to reduce stresses on the scope body.

The direct trigger has also been reshaped to make the rifle very comfortable to shoot.

The rifle has been engraved and inlaid in gold.

I shall wait for more pictures. My apologies to Joel again for the delay on my side.

Good hunting, everyone!

I´m somwhat confused .

The longer the distance between the two mounting points the more stress on the scope body.

Just my 2ct´s

Note how the bulk of the butt carries through the width of the wrist to add strength. Very fine work for sure!

My sincere apologies to Joel for the delay in adding these pictures. HP loaded some proprietary picture indexing software on my new PC and it did not allow me to download and add pictures to Photobucket as I used to earlier.

I hope you enjoy the pictures - as Joel is a member here now, he would answer any questions that anyone may have.

Good hunting, everyone!

It´s gorgeous but why the scope ring on the front lens ? not on the scope barrel, just looks odd to me, still stunning rifle but would have to re locate that forward ring, best, Mike

If the customer want´s that scope in combination with a claw mount there is no other solution.

And properly done it works fine (At least for hunting purposes).

Beautiful gun for sure.
The comb is very sharp. Was that to the customers request?

Here, some detailed views of the bottom metal, of the combined rear sight and front claw mount base and of the bolt handle.
The customer want such a swept back bolt handle even if I must confess that we prefer the modified Oberndorf style we use on our production.
However, this kind of handle eases a lowest mount.
For the floor plate we have modified an earliest Recknagel product and we have made a new trigger, set at the rear of the bow.
As per the sharp comb, it's a standard Dorleac feature, just a kind of gimmick….
I will post photos of the rifle when it will be completed.

It is a "signature"! Never a gimmick!
An item of such quality needs no gimmicks!

Beautiful, Joel, though that is to be expected, of course! Does the deeper floorplate add capacity to the magazine?

A question arrises in my mind about the rear corners of the floor plate. What are the little (what apears to be ) screws in the corners of the plate and is that the reason for the stopped bevel along the edge.

The small hole from side to side of the rear of the magazine floorplate cover houses the pivot pin for opening latch.
The two small allen screws that go vertically at the rear, under the plate, hold the replaceable fastener on witch the latch secures.
Seems complex or puzzled because my English is bad, but the mechanism is neat and very sturdy, like a Deeley forend fastener.
The magazine holds five 300HH cartridges.

Joel,
Superb workmanship on this one as with all the rifles you build!
Expertly photographed too.
Would love to see that type of latch on a straddle floorplate.
Thanks for showing, and your english is perfect.

The engraved parts came back from the hands of the young artist Hubert Damperat.
I have loosely fitted them for the photos and indeed the screws are not fully set.
Alas I forgot to careful take of some grit and oil.
We will prepare the action for our traditional color case hardening, the barrel and fittings being rust blued.
