Converting a CZ 550 to 404 Jeffery,what is needed?

Ok finally found a suitable victim for my 404 Jeffery build. It's a CZ 550 magnum in 375 H&H. What do I need to have done to it? How long of a barrel is best? Any ideas on Barrel Makers?

Bolt face opened up,maybe some mag box work and feed ramp.
Bed it and cross bolts,Barrel band sling swivel to stop it biting your leading hand.
I like 24" barrels.

If it's a CZ have the wrist opened up to suit the size of your hand and finger trigger engagement near to the first joint and trim the fore end profile so that both hands lie near enough along the same (horizontal) plane for starters.

Trim the comb so that you can use both irons and scope. You can adjust drop a bit to accommodate if you have a longer neck or skull/ prominent cheekbones. Cast off can be adjusted a touch by trimming for those with wider frames/thoraxes.

Consider LOP according to conditions/ weather and consequently the clothing you will hunt in.

A little work on a standard stock goes a long way.

Why not to 470 Capstick, a much easier conversion?

416 Rigby, 404 Jeffery, 458 Lott or 450 Rigby rimless would be those to consider in my opinion. I would stay away from the wildcats and "exotic" cartridges.

22 to 23 inches barrel will do for a 404 Jeffery. Border makes barrels.

I think the barrel band is over rated. I have a 7 1/2 lb (all in including scope) 375 Weatherby and I shoot it with and without a sling, no barrel band, and it's never gotten close to biting me. They do look pretty on safari rifles though, I have one on my 500 Jeffery.

I hold my rifles right out the front with my forefinger wrapping around the end of the forend.
This normally puts the sling swivel under my hand and I hate it. Depends on the stock as well.

But I do think they look cool as well.

It would be cheaper to purchase this rifle from CZ in .404. The rail work, and other costly gunsmithing would already be done by people who have worked out the kinks.

I've thought of this too. Already sent an email to Clay at Prophet River to see what a new Safari Classic in 404 J would run me.

Bob Jury out of Red Deer Alberta just started cutting .423" barrels for .404 Jeffery's. Best way to get to him is through Bob at Custom Gunworx. 403-845-8712
