Greetings frostbite from another new guy.

Looks like a nice bull. Can you share the story and any more photos?

I'd love to know details about hunting in Zambia.

E

What size is he?

This was my first hunt in Africa and I took a tuskless cow ele at 11yds and this nice buff at 35yds with my 400 - both one-shot kills. We never measured him, but Buzz said he's around 38in. I posted a full hunt report on AR and would be glad to provide a link of that on this site or copy it here, but I'm not sure that is kosher.

They were helmet like. Johnny left the shot choice up to me. It was day two of a seven day and a perfect broadside shot at about 70 yards. Johnny, "He's only about 36" Bwana, the choice is yours. You might see better, you might not." All my mind kept seeing was that helmet. Bang, 300 gr. TSX on the point of the shoulder, dead Buffalo in about 30-40 yards (although we didn't know until the follow up into the grass.

That is certainly 'kosher'. Start a new thread for us to enjoy. Or I can copy it to NE for you.

This is not my buff but it is a great mount. Would be proud of it if it were mine. Pic from another forum (unable to acknowledge shooter or area taken)

John that is a very good view of a Cape buff. It would be interesting if someone could photoshop a similar aged Asian buff alongside a Cape just to get a perspective of them together.

Sorry to steal your thunder without acknowledgment Frank, but he is just a beauty that I couldn't resist. I have him in my pic's folder and look at him often.

You've posted that one on NE in the past I believe. It is certainly familiar and I have seen it before.

Very nice trophy.

Any comments - is this nice and wide bull a little soft still or fully hardened?

Interested for personal educational purposes.

I think he is hard, his boss is worn, not a tight one, just not a great boss !

This one has a great boss !!

Boy, that one really has a helmet!
The other one, NitroX's picture, is a really nice one even if the bosses aren't that full. I like the low level picture.
I haven't heared anything about the hair on the ears, but it seems like most old bulls don't have much long hair on the ears. Suppose it has most to do with the type of country they live in. If the general rule holds that the span from ear tip to ear tip on an adult is roughly 30", then both of these bulls would be quite wide indeed!

He looks fully hard, ( maybe the tiniest little triangle still soft in front) but he doesnt look old.

Either way it would be difficult to not shoot him. Like folding a pair of Jacks, you might see something better, but when?
