so I am not the only one with a 11,2x60 Schüler here anymore. your rifle is Number 5 I have heard till now worldwide. my own is a Ernst Steigleder, another one in germany was bought in south africa years ago. this is a Immanuel Meffert with a very long barrel and express sights like yours and was shown in the "hatari times magazin". I know of a rifle in south america and in sweden but was not able to get more informations about. yours is an Greiffelt, sounds like a who is who of the gunmakers in Suhl but where are original August Schüler made rifles?

Ernst Steigleder

Berlin u. Suhl

the 11,2x60 Schüler, a 11,15x60R Mauser M 71 full nitro rimless stands in power between the 405 Win. and the 375 H&H. you see it here with a 9,3x64 Brennecke and a 10,75x68. two rounds also upper class of medium bore cartridges who kill the 11,2x60.

Wim Degol in Belgium made close to original .440 330 grains bullet, bonded core

this bullets have 0,8mm to 0,5mm thick jackets but he make this bullet also with thicker jackets for african game

we are the club! anyone with a 11,2x60 can come in. can you show the cartridge again? it looks like a flat point on your pic and thatwould be new to me. the 11,2 is a liitle bit sensitive to feed in the chamber and this is the reason for the original bullet design. a flat point bullet is not very helpfull for proper feeding.

Lancaster

Off the subject but am interested in the manufacturer of the 10.75x68 cartridge you show in one of your photos. First time I have seen that projectile in a 10.75x68. I have a few of these 347gr SP flat nose, they shoot well in my .404.

this cartridge was made from DWM post ww 2

here the 1937 DWM catalog, notice that only the 22,5 gramm Rdkopf Teilm.(Rundkopf Teilmantel)- round nose softpoint was available in two loads:
No. 170 610 m/sec muzzle velocity
No. 171 670 m/sec

in the 1962 DWM catalog you have three different 22,5 gramm bullets
load no. 10620 VR (Vollmantel Rundkopf) full metall round nose
load No. 10621 TR (Teilmantel Rundkopf) soft point round nose
load No. 10622 TF (Teilmantel Flachkopf) soft point flat nose
muzzle velocity now 667 m/sec
all three loads are for the old pre war DWM No. (171) as you see so before the 1937 catalog the 10,75x68 was maybe also avialable with VR and TF bullets.
I think that DWM also sold Bullets but if kudue see this he can probably tell you more

the headstamp, the small L and O before and after DWM is iirc a postwar code for the year the cartridge was made

priceless: the 1937 catalog have the 11,2x60

Paul,

Some more details on this rifle, please! The Germanic style and chambering suggest that it was used in German Southwestern Africa / Namibia or in Tanganyika?

Beautiful!

Lancaster,

Did you get your rifle refinished or is it in original shape? Either way, a most beautiful rifle! A treasure that would spice up any gunsafe!

Yes, I'm interested in what sort of hunting the 11.2x60 was used for. Was it used on dangerous game in Africa? Or was it a bigger bore cartridge used for larger plains and soft skinned game? What was its intended purpose but what was it really used for?

I have never really heard about this one before. Unless it is the same cartridge used in one Swiss canton for chamois, which is a similar sized calibre?

I got this rifle as it you see 7 years ago in france, first one with this chamber I ever see, the colour case was new made sometimes before when the original Suhl claw mount was changed against a Talley mount. who ever made it was very good in his business. the new mount have the same kind of colours than the action and they have very different steel quality.
the 11,2x60 Schüler was the fist big game cartridge from AugustSchüler/Suhl, its also the first case with a rebated rim ever. it predate the 425 Westley Richards by 1-2 years and the Westley Richards cartridge is clearly a more powerful copy from this round. what the round is good for? muzzle energy 3575 ft/lb , the 10,75x68 have 3830 ft/lb I would say its good up to buffalo
