Dorleac Plains Game 270 Win LH rifle
      #175619 - 16/02/11 01:11 PM

Joel Dorleac has sent me these pictures of a RH barreled action stocked for a left handed client for use on plains game in Africa. From Joel's e-mail:

Hi Mehul,

Here some photos of a light .270 Winch. “Standard Plains Game Rifle” built on an Original 98’ Mauser action, for a southpaw customer.
Right hand action with lefty stock, as he has ordered.
A very, very accurate rifle.

Kind regards, mon ami.

I'll need a cold shower after looking at the colour case hardening. Gorgeous. Keep them coming please Mehulkamdar.

It is beautiful, no question... and I'm sure an absolute joy to own and shoot.
but to be critical, why would you want such an extremely high mounted scope and iron sights on a .270? Is it set up for 180gr Woodleighs?

Yes, the scope mounting is higher than what I would like as well.
I go out of my way to set my rifles up with the lowest scope mounting height possible, and have done this for many years on many different rifles.
That said, I am sure Mr Dorleac could supply a similar rifle to this one, but with a different scope and mount which would give a lower height.
It would just be a matter of what the customer requires I would think.

tophet1,

Happy to post these pics - I enjoy them as much as you do! Will have more later today.

I also have a response to the scope choice discussion from Joel:

About the lefty .270 rifle, 4seventy is right: if it is acceptable, we do what the customer want; I personally like the scope very low, but it is difficult to make such a claw mount with the big European optics on a traditional Mauser action, even with our modified bolt handle.
Also, here we don't use rifles as you do in USA, and if the stock is well suited we can use such an arrangement.
Notice that we always build iron sights with much care, because we think that they are a fundamental element of the rifle; they must be perfectly regulated and highly usable too.
Happily, there are some difference between the Old World and your New Continent.
Thank you very much for your kind appreciations, it is very important to receive comments from "fresh" eyes !

Joel DORLEAC
