I have recently purchased a Sabatti Double Rifle in .450 N.E. 3.25" and it is a well made and very cost effective weapon and they make one in your desired caliber so go have a look at their website and draw your own conclusions, check with Cabellas as they are the sole agents for 2 years,

Cheers,

You can't beat the Sabatti for value at about $5K.

Not to sound like a salesman, but you can get the Searcy made to fit you from the get go and he offers many worthwhile options.

Verney Carron will build to your specs a sweet looking O/U in 450/400 for under $7K. Much better than getting an off the rack model.

I bought a Sabatti 450NE (3.25) and it is one fine rifle. All of the reports about them have been positive and at 5K RETAIL you can not go wrong on the price. And of course they make it in 450-400.

Good luck!

The Zoli O&U is the best buy in the industry and a rugged, accurate, dependable rifle and the only one I consider suitable for Alaska's conditions

One of the main reasons is it's weatherproof and easy to remove triggerplate action which is comparable to the Wesley Richards droplock

Hey Phil, is that Zoli in 400? If so, did you pick it up in AK??

The Zoli is 450/400 and I ordered it from Zoli as no one in AK seemed to know anything about them.

They are a rugged, accurate and reliable double for Alaskan conditions

I like the look of your Zoli, 458Win. Despite Elmer Keith's use of a S/S, it looks more in keeping with the Alaskan tradition, vaguely like a lever gun with full-length mag.

I bet the scope works better with the O/U, too, not to mention that your hand is less likely to stick to the barrels.

That Zoli looks like a pretty decent piece of kit. Nothing wrong with an O/U at all.

I sure like it better than that plastic bolt gun.

Curl, ha ha.

I think the Zoli looks like a very nice U/O as well and the .400 would make a great backup rifle for Alaska.

Nothing wrong with a U/O in my opinion if that is the owners preference.

Phil, thanks for posting the photos.

I have a sxs British Hollis hammer double rifle in .450/400. I love and shoot various sxs double rifles, but also like and shoot o/u double rifles, and feel that an o/u seems more suited to fitting a scope, so when I need a scope, I use an o/u, but otherwise I generally use a sxs. My old friend, the late Elmer Keith, was right when he said that this caliber is perfect for Alaska.

Is your 450/400 Hollis an A.Hollis or a I.Hollis? There are at least 2 A Hollis 500/450's here.

BwanaNelson has been doing some work for Zoli in the 450/400's they're building now. And IIRC he said that if the Hornady factory load bullet is pulled and 1 grain of powder removed it'll regulate much better. Maybe he'll add more.

Hi Nelson, I have been considering shipping my Zoli #5 to you to let you play with the regulation but have learned to live with what I have. they are super rifles.

What velocities are the 450/400s regulating at Bwana?

Phil, thanks for the reply. Do you have any tales regarding the 400 on bears this past season? I took my Heym on my spring brown bear hunt, but couldn't find a big bear. I must say the rifle was comforting in the alders.
