No photos or video unfortunately, but years ago when I had my Brno 602 375H&H I used to load 220gn Hornadys as my pig hunting load. The projectiles were meant for the more sedate 375Win but performed as well as my 308Win on pigs.

The following is true and you guys should try it sometime. We did some bunny busting one afternoon - my mate driving the ute and me with the 375. Every time I shot a rabbit (aimed for it's chest) it would fragment and get blown 12 feet straight up into the air (the larger fragments that is). I shot a total of 4 rabbits and they reacted the same everytime. Maybe there was something wrong with us at that time but we thought it was really funny.

Classic, not plastic bolts? Ok, I'm in. Here are some photos of a Colorado 6x6 elk I killed in 1987 - my first elk. I just found these negatives and scanned them this morning.

This was a "poor-boy" hunt. No guide, and on public land.

We went in with backpacks. I slept under a spruce tree on a plastic tarp near my stand. No tent, and quite frosty! My hunting companions slept on the opposite side of a high ridge behind.

I had laid out a blind the evening before, setting up my ambush across an open meadow. Here's a photo of my blind, with the sleeping tarp now used as a ground cover to sit on that morning.

And here's a view of my open meadow ambush. There is a little beaver pond at the base of the far ridge. The beavers had kept the meadow open. My shot was to the far ridge, just below the aspens.

I killed the bull elk at first light with my Pre-64 Win. M70 .375 H&H topped by a 4x Redfield scope in Weaver mounts. The shot was 330 yards. I knew the distance because I had paced across the meadow the day before. My load was a max charge of IMR4064 behind the Speer 335 grain bullet, right at 3000 fps. Quite a load for long range elk.

Sorry no glamor shot of me sitting behind the propped-up elk. I was alone when the first photos were taken.

Here's how he lay before I even moved anything. Wow, was I excited!

And now positioned, again with my rifle. I've tagged the elk. The sun is just coming up behind, and you can see my shadow now.

It's no "Boone & Crockett" but for a "do it yourself" Colorado hunt in 1987 it made my world.

While I was struggling to remove the entrails my hunting buddies showed up. Here's a shot of me with my elk, "red handed" from trying to get the guts out of that big animal.

Here's a photo of our hunting group back at our base camp, with me holding my elk antlers. The photo was taken with the camera on timer mode and propped on a rock. Nobody else was in our camp or anywhere nearby.

The Pre-64 M70 is a classic bolt without a doubt.

Lots of great pics! And I love the feral dog shot. One time I saw a dog in the wilderness while deer hunting. I assumed it had gotten away from its owner and did not shoot it. Within 10 minutes I found a buck deer killed by the dog with a chunk of hind quarter chewed off. Since then I have never passed on an opportunity to shoot an unattended dog on public land while big game hunting.

98 Mauser .458 2" - 14 year old moose was 675 pounds in quarters - nice but not huge, range 95 yards, antlers regressing. Used 350 Hornady RN @ 2,260fps in over left eye, centered the brain, smashed 3 vertebrae, then exited out the back of then neck. - About 1983, 26 years ago. The forest floor moss is about 6" or more deep.

What a great series of pix. Took a whole pot of coffee to download on this handcrank dialup, but worth the wait.

Curl, GREAT story. That one is etched in the memory-banks for sure. I love your hide. I call them "Blitz Blinds".

Kalunga...you don't post enough! Great "bild". A lot of reality in that pic.

Daryl, you are quite happy with yourself, aren't you. You should be!

Oz, my neighbor's "Ruffy" disappeared about two weeks ago and that dog your are holding looks alot like...oh, forget it...

I have taken my 404J after goat and got a couple but they are goat and not pic worthy, at least I didn,t take one. Same deal with my 7x57 on a 1908DWM. But man is it fun and beautiful country. I do have a pic of that

Bit of a stretch with the aperture but there are little pockets that can be snuck up on. Besides a mate had his scoped 270 along and I had the scope for my 7x57in my day pack if I really wanted to use it. Have never taken the camera before an hunts so maybe will have to make it part of standard equipment now they are so small and light in the digital mode.

Love this thread. The rifles are great and the animals too. Think we need stories on all these rifles if they haven't already been told.
VonGruff, please do take a camera along. The scenery is spectacular, like your' rifles. Will have to get ovet there...one of these days. Cheers, Chris

I think you are ready OZ. Looks good.
Can you take enough ammo for the 425 or do you think you can buy some in Africa?.
Cheers Neale.

Id like to think I might need more, but I think forty round of 425 and forty for 9.3 should be plenty.
