This one is. Not sure if it's a good deal, this end of the market is way out of my league.

Probably refinished or maybe / more likely rebarrelled IMHO.

The Serial number is 16XXX so it pre dates mine
which is 17XXX made in approx 1905.

I first saw this gun 2 years ago when Bill Moore had it, and asking was $110,000 USD. It made its rounds at SCI during that time and no takers. Then Caswell took it in on all trade, that's why the gun can be had for all trade.

I am surprised that given the chain of events surrounding the gun that Champlin's decided to up the asking over what was already $30k to much when it was at $110k.

The rising bite from Mike looks nice but probably pre-dates 1900 as 500nitro pointed out, if that's the case it would most likely be a bored out 450 rather than a re-barrel as suggested above.

"HOW DEEP ARE YOUR POCKETS?"

Not deep enough, I suspect, because it is still at Champlin's, and I only live 150 miles away from his store!

Hell yeah

I can afford to buy that baby..........but then I would have to live in it, well half of it anyway. The Minister for War would have the other half.

Nice grain flow through the wrist. $120,000, eh. I'll take two, but I have to sell the house first.
