I think springfield does an survivor combo in 410/22 hornet, its rather ugly but for suriving purpuse it shouldnt mather.
I would take my simson SL2 20/22 HP at 2,2kg it extremly handy for a "real" combo, merkel sells them nowdays.

A Savage 24 12G over (there are a lot of choices). Would proberbly be good. It is reasonably light, can be broken into 2 parts for backpacking has a polymer stock with a hollow butt. I think they may be out of production but you should still be able to pick them up. I think I would get a .308 bottom barrel myself for ammo availibility all around the world.
I also think I would have a 20G and 410 gauge sub caliber adapter machined for the 12G, a one inside the other job, ie use both for .410 and one for 20G to make sure you can shoot whatever you can scrounge up. I might also be tempted to machine a 22LR adapter for the 308 barrel. Yes accuracy will be rubbish beyound 10 yards but it could get you out of a hole if this is a real survival (Amazon jungle) type situation.

I just read last week in a monthly magazine that CZ was coming out with a new combo in 2009 offering centerfires around 223, 243 and 308--I believe...might want to check that out as well..

Hi guys Thanks for replies. i own a springfield m6 in 22Lr/410 and indeed it is a real game getter accurate ,but very light for self defens against predators like bear. i owned a savage 24 in 3030/12 ga, but i will never buy such a thing again .i had so much problem with this gun it's action oppened after every shot !!! and the point of impact changed all the time and there was more than a foot diffrens between the shotgun and rifle barrel at 30 meter!!!! i am thinking about the new brno combination gun model 802 ,in 8x57 jrs/12 but asked many gunshops in Sweden they don't know about it yet! cheers Daniel

get a paradox gun and be done with it 12 or 20 gauge slug or shell, and you get 2 for 1 shot with this idea.
EDIT: please look in the bore gun section, these guns dont have to be H&H at high prices. and they are fun. fun fun fun
best regards
peter

I agree - a 12 bore for both slug and shot. Possible with a screw in rifled choke for one barrel... Maybe a Dreiling with a .22LR barrel underneath...

If it is truly for survival you need a gun that you can have plenty of ammunition for. I would think a .22 under a 12 would be ideal. You can carry a lot of ammo and still have a 12 for really big and dangerous animals.
A lot of Deer get killed with a .22 with a lung shot. I daresay you could kill a buffalo or even a Moose with one if the bullet was proper and well placed.

There's a Krieghoff Neptune 12x12x.222 I found that I'm lusting over!!!
It's an odd combination, though.

Not that odd around here.

I don't want to steal the thread, but what game would you use it for in Sweden?

I would believe that easily..I once accidentally killed a deer with a .177 calber pellet gun traveling at around 1000fps...so .22 rimfire would be no problem if within range..

Mainly Foxes, reodeer, anything below moose/pigs actually. But as to recent years pig explosion, the smaller caliber drillings are beeing substituted for 7mm and up.

Ripp, you have to tell me about the accident. I am fascinated, where did you hit it ?? I am sure a lot of you have read that story Capstick mentioned of a pro killing a Jumbo with a .22LR for a bet. Any of you pros out there think it is possible (just theoretically obviously) best Mike

Hi peter and other friends well a shotgun with slug and shot will cover the most survival situations unless the range becomes more than 70-80 meters. once i had a tikka m70 in 12 ga/222 remington , that combi was so accurate that made many varmint rifles hidding of shame !!! one day when i was on the shooting range with my son . there was a plnty of ½ broken claybirds on the other side of a vally laying on the ground distance was mere 300 yards away when i hit many of them with my combo's 222 rem barrel shooting federal 55 gr fmjbt, my son took that gun from me and now it is his gun!!!! this gun was a very good survival gun 'but rather heavy with mount and scope about 4 kilo+ . i had very nice buckshot pattern at 30 meters and good acuraccy with brenneke and slugger at 50 meters distance too. cheers Daniel

I believe that was Bell with a 22 Hornet. The account is in John Taylor's book on African guns.
Take care, Tom
