I have used the 9.3x62 on a few Cape Buffalo ect and would not mind hunting Buffalo or Bull Ele with the 9.3x64 loaded with 300grn Swift A Frames and or 320grn Woodleigh Solids.

Pivi, the biggest that I have personally shot with my 9.3x64 Brenneke was Cape eland. However, a lot of my clients has used my rifle over the years to shoot buffalo, hippo and elephant. It works fine, provided you use the right bullets. The right bullets IMO are Rhino/ TBBC (286-300 gr), Swift A-Frame (300gr), Barnes X/ TSX (286gr) as "softs", Woodleigh 286 or 320gr solids, or any monolithic solid of 280 gr and heavier. You are welcome to contact me with any questions on this cartridge if you like.

Well,it is still an open question here if the 9,3 x 64 is equal or even superior to the 375 H&H magnum.
According to me it can do everything the 375 does, but with the right bullets.
There are not many loads for this european cartridge but I think that vollmantel or TUG bullets( as factory loaded)are capable to kill everything on this planet if shot by an experienced hunter.
I agree with you:some modern bullets can increase the effectiveness of this cartridge.
The recent 9,3 x 66 Sako / 370 Sako has almost the same power of the Brenneke cartridge
I wouldn't use a 375 H&H-class cartridge to hunt buffalo or elephant under adverse conditions, anyway

PS:Is there any factory that loads the 11,2 x 72 schuler with hi-tech bullets?
This relatively small cartridge could be a good choice for the DG hunter that likes shooting european cartridges.

Thanks for your replies

Pivi,

IMHO, they are Equal - or so little difference between them
that the animal wouldn't notice.

I have both and have Shot heaps of Buff here in Australia with both.

I wouldn't have any problem using it on other big critters with the right bullets.

there is no factory load for this since 1939. maybe harald wolf had made a small lot anytime. not so much bullets available: woodleigh have them in the list, degol will make them if you wish.
lathe turned specials in .440, no problem if you order them from the usual suspects

the schüler cartridge was to close to the 10,75x73/404 jeffery so RWS loaded only this round after WW 2. if can get an original big bore from Suhl, they are rare, take it, smile and go your way.

Thank you all

Lancaster,
thank you for the great scan,I love this stuff.
The 11,2 x 72 cartridge pictured is loaded with a strange SP bullet.I have never seen a 11,2 schuler with a so long SP bullet. The sample in my collection and the others I have seen were all loaded with a FMJ or a HP bullet well sunk inside the case

I was allways to miserly to buy one of the schüler cartridges for the collection, like to see yours. the schüler rebated rim cartridges have allways a very pointed round nose to make feeding better, there are realy problems but a good gunmaker can fix this.

schüler guns are underrated on the us market, better buy them there. I will hope this one here

preview7.adeoo.at/files/download/waffenliste_miedler.doc

"Großwild Mauser Kal 11,2x72 Schüler € 6.900,--"
is first class for 6900 euro.

if you are also a collector, do you have an example of the 32mm Fiocchi shotgun case. I believe it was used from italien waterfowler's not in punt guns but in swifel guns from duck hunting blind's.
I am looking for more informations.

PH Tony Sànchez Ariño used the 9,3x64 with brennecke tug on lions and trust this load for dangerous situations

http://www.tembo.co.za/tradebulletin/bulletin_view.asp

9,3 x 64 (Brenneke)

Top grade custom gun built by Master gunsmiths SABI Werkswinkel (Magnum Arms). Mauser action, Lothar Walther barrel, top grade Turkish Wallnut stock in “Bushveld” format topped by a 1,5 – 6 x 42 Schmidt und Bender Scope with illuminated reticule on EAW swingoff mounts. Engraving theme: Lion – done by South Africa’s pre-eminent gun engraver Armin Winkler. 14” length of pull. The deal includes 360 odd rounds of RWS TUG ammo, 140 rounds of Sustech monolithic solids shooting at same point of aim as TUG’s at 100 metres, a few hundred once fired RWS cases, as well as 200 GS Custom 230gr HV bullets and 100 GS Custom 265gr FN Solids. Also gun sling and bore snakes. Rifle completely rust blued for protection against African hunting conditions.

This rifle has seen action in several African countries, responsible for three Cape buffalo, lion, leopard, hippo and a host of other species. This was my primary hunting rifle when hunting internationally for trophies, when I did not know what species to expect next, what conditions, distance etc. It is therefore my primary “all-rounder”, capable of taking buffalo or elephant in forced situations. It is important to note that this calibre is MARGINAL when taking on either of these species. It requires exceptional marksmanship, as there is no room for error. It has taken more than thirty different species internationally. The 9,3 x 64 (Brenneke) is balistically marginally better than the ..375.

Price: R 45 000,00 ONCO. Talk to me.

11,2 x 72 Schuler

Collectors piece – one of the original continental calibres used in Africa on dangerous game and specifically Elephant. Very unique calibre and rifle. A very rare, hand built rifle built on a Mauser K98 action from one of the better known gunsmiths in Austria. Based on the serial number also built at about 1924. Deal includes 38 HH never fired cases. Woodleigh manufactures 401gr softs and solids for this calibre.

Price: R 9 000,00 ONCO. Talk to me.

Lancaster,
I am a cartridge collector but I don't have a 32 mm shotshell sample.
However I think that it was used on punt guns.
You can download the 1926 Fiocchi catalog here:

http://www.armietiro.it/edisport/armi/No...69?OpenDocument

( it is free)

Later I will post the picture of my 11,2 x 72 Schuler cartridge sample

Pardon me for asking like a mega-stoopid question, but: are these Tony Sanchez-Arino's rifles??
How do you know?
Seller seems to be in RSA, as far as I know, Tony lives in Spain.

I don't seem to recollect him ever commenting on the 9,3x64 (not that I've read an awful lot written by him).

Tony Sanchez-Arino loved the 9.3x64, and yes with the TUG bullet, it would make a great Lion calibre.

Gentlemen,

I bought a newly build rifle in 11,2x72 Schüler from Harald Wolf early in 2008.
That is a fine rifle and shoots with reloads (bullets: 330grs not tested; 400grs from Degol, 400grs from Woodleigh; cases from Horneber) pretty good.

I can recommed the cartridge if the gunsmith has adjusted the feeding issue correctly.
(I did only test it on the range.)

I must say you are very cold-blooded rolf, having maybe the first new gun since 1939 for the 11,2x72 at home and dont show it here.
dont you think that pics are a good idea?

Gentlemen,

yes, of course, that is not nice not to show such a rifle!

The reason is: I avoid posting pictures due to a slow PC and a genuine unavailability at PC handling skill !!!
A colleague of NE showed mercy and offered help, but his PC-programe did not recognize the file.
So this attempt was terminated.

If I can send photos to someone, he has to present pictures of the rifle and I will throw in some pictures of the german Korth revolvers and the Korth pistol.
I offered this also a time ago, but no one seemed to be interested...

Now I am curious!
Rolf
