Here are some pics of a J.P.Sauer that I found recently. It is a 8x57 in super condition. It has most of the case colors still on the bolt, bolt stop and shroud.

WVFred,
Beautiful rifle! The traditional style stock and the octagonal barrel make this a handsome piece indeed!
Is this a J or an S bore?
Good hunting and thanks for posting!

What a beauty, Fred. I have a Sauer very similar to that, although the safety is longer and there is no cheek piece. Mine is a .318 bore which has seen more use, but it is one of my favorites. Enjoy your find. They're great rifles.

Mehul, I haven't checked it yet but I'd say it is a .318 bore as it is an earlier gun.
Thanks
Fred

Oh, now that's a sweet one!!! I've got one similar that looks to be the same vintage. Mine's a J or I .318 bore. I love the way these early German Mausers feel and carry. Today's American custom gun/2x4 builders could learn a thing or two from the elders.

nice gun ,theres a pic of one that was once mine in petrovs book.definetly not easy or cheap to duplicate and it would be hard pressed to find a contempory gunsmith that could execute it in pure germanic style....paul
