Cleaning old barrels
      #11404 - 11/03/04 04:39 PM

I have some blackpowder doubles that have been neglected over the years. I keep scrubbing and cleaning, but it seems to keep coming. Not that I'm lazy, but does anyone have any suggestions to ease the choir. It is mostly lead and powder fouling. The rifling is coming up pretty good so I want to keep going. I think they are looking pretty good, spray some ballestol down the barrels, let it sit, and pass a patch through it and more comes out, and back to the begining I go. Any help.

There is a thread about a foam cleaning product posted somewhere. I think that might be the ticket. Don't ask me where and when, I don't remember, since I got CRS, you know. You get that from your kids and their kids.

The foam cleaner is called Wipe Out and it is great for copper fouling....Kroil patch with JB Compound is what you need to start with...scrub that barrel with this stuff then use the foam..then back to JB and Kroil...Some to those old bores will never in a hundred years give you back a clean patch....in which case go for a grey one and call it quits....
