new Norma 325 gr ammo for 9.3x62
      #104585 - 09/05/08 05:58 AM

Just FYI and a heads up for the guys that shoot a 9.3x62 but that don't handload:

I noticed in Norma's 2008 catalog that they are listing a new load for the 9.3x62. It's a 325 gr Norma Oryx at a listed 2300 fps (24" barrel).

Should be a real thumper!!

(Also, the 250 gr Swift A-Frame load at 2625 fps doesn't look too shabby either!)

The Norma catalog can be downloaded here:

Cheers!

This is great. This seems to push the envelope a bit further and seperate the 9.3x62 from other medium thin skin gave cartridges. Not quite the .375 H&H, but closer with a standard action.
I am looking at a 9.3x62 rechamber on my M146 Husqvarna. This is a 1898 action, not the '96. Looks like the magazine and feed will be OK. I am trying to contact Lone Star as it seems they have done this conversion.

This is awesome news. I would expect more bullets in this weight to available from other manufacturers apart from Woodleigh & Norma. I wonder if Ruger will bring out this caliber now? There is enough difference between this and the 375 Ruger to give a good choice to us shooters / hunters.

9.3X57 & Tilleyman should now be getting set up for tests!

Norma seems to really be trying to shake things up recently. I commend them for it. This bullet should be a welcome addition to 9.3 shooters.

(I can't wait for their 8x68S ammo either - 200-gr. A-Frame @ 2900+ FPS.)

I would LOVE to test the new bullets, but...

Seriously, I wonder hard about the actual field utility of the current craze to Maximize every caliber. Meaning, the 9.3x62 gained a sterling reputation shooting a certain bullet weight. Does that mean that adding 40 grains is going to turn it into a .400?

I don't think so.

Dare...

I...

say...

it...

Could this be the Swede's stroll down Madison Avenue?

This 325 couldn't be a marketing thing, could it?

Or will it actually...ACTUALLY...offer an improvement in 9.3x62 ballistics that will be in any way noticeable in the field or on game?

There is no free lunch in bullet chucking. Added weight means less velocity, and velocity is not a bad thing if adequate bullet weight exists. The 285 standard is adequate by everybody's standards.

Or maybe not everybody's?
