Does anybody know if gold washing the locks was standard or an option for Holland and Holland? I took a part a detachable lock rifle last night and found the lock were gold washed or plated. The other ones I have seen were engine turned. This was a very early 465 Royal without ejectors so I think it may have beena special order but don't know.

Any ideas or information? Did most of the manufacturers offer it as a add on or was it stanndard/

David

The idea was to reduce friction for smoother operation. Like engine turning gave a ligh oil a place to reside for the same reason.

There is a reason that a quality Double can't be built for $6000.

Gold washing also prevented RUST.
