Howdy folks. This is my first post and I wanted to say hello. I am in the process of a huge penetration study on 458 cal bullets. I was going to post the results on AR but have changed my mind. Would anyone mind if I posted the results here instead?

post away... we may be old and cranky, but we always enjoy a good debate.

I'd love to see it. I'm in the process of working up a 458 Lott load.
Thanks!!

I will post the results as soon as they are completed. If there are any bullets you all would like tested, let me know what they are and I will try to include them. This test is being done with a 458 Lott at both high and low pressure. Each load is shot across the chrono and into the media. As far as changing the details of the test go, I have already started and its to late to turn back now.

Just outta curiosity, what kinds of bullets are you going to use?

LongShotRX I would like to see the same bullets shot at Nitro Express velocities i.e.@ 2100fps as well as Lott speeds. I hope you will test the 480 Woodleigh soft, the 500 Swift A Frame, the 500gr Hornady Soft and the North Fork 450gr. I would also like to see the 350 Hornady shot at @ 2350fps. What test media are you using?

The velocities that I pushed the 350 hornady at caused the bullet to destroy its self with very poor penetration. I backed it down to 2000 and it still shed the core after 10.5 inches of wet news paper and two .5 thick plates of particle board. I have tested the barnes and the hornady 500's. I'm still waiting for samples of some of the more premium lines like Northfork and Woodleigh. In time they too will be tested. I am looking forward to the Bridger solids and the Spitzer shaped bullets from Groove.
