I have been spending way to much money on firearms lately but i find it hard to say no when a good deal comes up. i have found a william douglas in 470NE, its in new condition and the guy wants 10k for it and i bet i can talk him down. Has anyone out there ever owned a william douglas DB, are they a good rifle?, how does it shoot?, is it a good investment?, and how's the quality?, how do you think it would compare with the B.Searcy?

I have a William Douglass & Sons Double Rifle in .470 NE and I am very happy with it , it is the best value .470NE ,Boxlock,Ejector, English Double Rifle with modern steel around for the price of $10000 buy it! I contacted a Daniel Sargeant at William Douglass in England and he said they only made 98 rifles and there is no plans for anymore as they are very time consuming to make and regulate and now they concentrate on sxs shotguns but may make a Double to special order. Your rifle will go up in value but because they where made about 1998 the price will start to creep up over the next few years . I think it would be a better investment than a Searcy as most collector/shooters want English Doubles. European and American Doubles , while they can be a very good rifle , dont go up in value like a English Double . Thanks

The ones that I have seen, I really liked the way they pointed and the way the feel....

However, I recently settled for one of the new Searcy PH model in .470 N.E. and they are much slimmer and trimmer than the older Searcy rifles...The sell for $9500 new.

I love this one and it will touch both bullets at 50 yards every time...For a hunting rifle it is the best gun I have ever owned bar none and its the first modern double that I have ever owned..It has found a permentent home. I can shoot monolithic FN copper solids in this gun and that greatly increases its killing potential and I like that..It will even shoot Barnes X HP bullets into a 1.5" group at 50 yards..albeit I will stay with Woodliegh softs and Bridger solids..The Bridger solids will simply cut a small hole in the bull at 50 yards..at same POI as the woodleigh softs
