Just got a surprisingly cheap .700 round for display(no powder or primer). I noticed in the 12 gauge from hell thread that Ed Hubel said people should consider enlarging NE pockets to take BMG primers-someone else must agree. My case is headstamped HH (Hulsen Horneber) and looks to take the big primer. The .600 round I bought a couple years ago had a pocket that accepted a dummied Winchester Large Rifle(anvil and priming compound physically removed)-Does the .700 take a larger primer anyway, or is this more likely to be a recent development?

Nice of them to listen to me.Haha. Although I think it really was the case of why put up with misfires with a 2 cent small primer, in a 100 dollar per loaded cartridge setup, when 25 cent bmg primers does the job perfect. Especially if you have a $20,000 hunt on the line with one shot.Ed

I read the story about misfires too-and had the same opinion at the time. I didn't think of the idea of using larger primers at the time, but such an easy fix would almost have had to have been suggested by someone else too. The round I bought ended up costing $39 for a case and two bullets by the time shipping cost figured in. For people who reload for this caliber it's a much cheaper way to go once the load is worked up. I'd love to hunt Africa at least once, but that little matter of price stops the idea-maybe if I win big in the lottery(new house, nice cars, and of course being able to follow the hunting season anywhere)-Looks like for now I'll just be collecting ammo that gets used there.

That is why we made my 700HE belted case from BMG brass. I have a long 3.87" and shorter 3.25" version. Cases are about 6 bucks when done, and much less expensive bolt actions will do, like the one I put in reworked Enfield, and plan on doing one in Savage 210 bolt action next few weeks. Also MRC and McGowen are developing actions that will work, at a decent price.Ed
