Hi Folks,
Does anyone know the ballistics and bullet drop etc on the .500 NE?
I currently shoot a .500 Jeffrey bolt action, but have recently learnt of a company making double rifles here in RSA on a Searcy action. I'd like a double and the price will be very reasonable once the exchange rate picks up a bit, but I'd like to be sure that the ballistics are comparable before making an order.
Hope someone out there can help.

Shakari: Assuming 2150 fps at the muzzle, and sights filed in for 60 yds, the 570gr Woodleigh RNSP is an inch low at 100 yds, 4 inches low at 150 yds, and about 9 or 10 inches low at 200 yds.
If you were to sight it on the money at 100 yds, the mid-range trajectory would be less than an inch high, and only down 2 1/2 inches at 150 yds, and 7 or 8 inches low at 200 yds.
How does that compare? Good enough I'd reckon!
Get yourself a copy of Point-blank, a free-ware ballistics program which is invaluable for this kind of mucking about. Download it from here: http://www.huntingnut.com/pointblank.html
BTW, I can supply the Woodleigh bullet data for Point-blank's bullet database, if anyone is interested. E-mail me at marrakai577@hotmail.com
Cheers

shakari,
If you get a 500 made, sight it in for 100 yards. You may need to take a longer shot than 100 yards and a 4" drop at 150 yards may man a non vital hit.
If and when you get the 500, email me and I'll give you various load data for various powders.
Hope this helps
