I've run into a snag with the Pachmayr scope mount that I was going to use on my M70 safari express. What else do you winchester owners use in a quick release design? I tried the Leupold QR mount, but the rear mount over hangs the receiver, causing a partial obstruction when trying to load rounds. I would appreciate any ideas(that I can afford!). Thanks!

I think the best chice is the Warne QD mount. You can find them at Midway or Brownell's. I have used them for years. Great mounts.

On my M70 Classic Safari Express (375H&H) I am using:
Front - "Weaver Grand Slam all steel top mount base" #S46 part # 48227.
Rear - "Weaver Grand Slam all steel top mount base" # S49A part # 48244. both are matte black in colour.
Rings Burris "Signature ZEE ring 1" high matte black part # 240531.
Scope: Leupold VX III 3.5-10x40mm Part # 55046 matte black duplex recticle.
The weaver style base and ring system are not exctly quick release as in flip a 2 levers and pull. But it should in theory be able to return to zero when reinstalled. It's very strong the weak link being the four 6-48 machine screws that hold the bases on the receiver.
The signature rings are the best (if your not going to reem the rings true) you won't get any scope ring rash with the plastic swivel bearing inserts in the rings.

GreenjoyTJ, Did you choose the high mounts because of the scopes obj. lens diameter, or because of the high comb of the winchester's stock?

The Weaver Rings and bases are strong, that's true, but they are not QDs, and they will not return to ZERO, after being removed!
I also like the Warnes!

Sorry, I made a mistake the Burris Signature rings are Medium height. and are Burris part # 420521 in matte black.
I grabed the wrong empty package from my kit box. I have both height rings but I installed the lowest set first to test fit me to the rifle and I am happy with the ring hight. My choice of the "weaver mount system" as opposed to a quicker quick release system was the fact I can't use the iron sights. My fat face and the high comb of the M70 stock means I can't get the front sight bead into the groove of the of the rear blade. The closest I can do is have the about half the front post sticking above the groove of the rear sight blade. But I like the looks of the iron sight on the gun, so I just left them on and lazer bore sighted them. Some day I might remove the iron sights for that clean barrel look. But for now and because I am not sure how to remove the fron ramp ( I suspect there may be another hold down screw under the front sight blade). I wish Winchester had put a lower comb stock on the rifle so the irons sights could br used but I am sure their marketing research shows most people put a scope on this rifle (in 375 cal) I don't know why they would but this same high comb stock on the rifles chamber for 458win mag.

I am sure it won't "exactly zero" put I suspect it will be very close. I will have to experiment with the system to see how far off the mark reinstalling the mount will have on the point of impact.
