Danke for the article! I wonder why they use those goofy scope mounts. I saw some of those at SCI and wondered why someone would choose that rather awkward setup when there are much more convenient arrangements available. IMO.

However, the rifle is very nice looking.

That's Holland's proprietary mount that they've used for ages. Very expensive. Guess it just comes with the brand, like G&H's horrible sidemount. I experimented with the Holland mount once and it did come back to perfect zero every time. I'd rather have a claw mount though.

You can see to use the open sights under the scope on the H&H mount, right?

Can't say. I intensely dislike "see thru" arrangements and wouldn't have paid any attention to that. I was shooting with the scope, removing it and shooting with sights, then back again. If I'm going to use the sights, the scope comes off.

I don't believe the mounts are the "see-thru" versin, they are offset to the left, so as to not block the open sights, similar to some side mounts I guess.

Just going by the picture:

That's what I meant, John. See-thru/offset = same really dumb idea. What works infinitely better is instant detachability so that the sights can be accessed when desired. The the claw mount offers this. This Holland mount is much slower and is more expensive than claw mounts.

I think H&H charges around US$2500 for the H&H sidemount (if my memory serves me correct).

Pretty expensive for what they are IMO...

Perhaps H&H try to be different from other makers so that no one confuses their product with that of another maker? This could be their way of being "different" because, otherwise, their rifle is just a very high grade Mauser bolt gun?

Overall, I think the rifle looks incredibly beautiful. The stock design is simple and minimalistic and yet far more pleasing to my eye than that of many other fine stocks that I have seen pictures of as well as in the flesh. Somehow, the "double rifle" price of $ 40,000 seems justified in the case of whoever could afford to pay it.

Cheers!

they use it for tradition, i`ve saw an norwegian gunsmith could mount one on a mauser for 18000 kr . that is 3000 us, i can get an african safari for that! . i wonder what i would put that kind of money into . let me think? A F R I C A !!

the eaw mount is good , but for a safari rifle i would choose that would stand recoil over and over, and talley looks fine for me, and warne, i hav e a set for my custom Ruger nr 1 in 450 NE ´1,4 inch and they are fine.

The new H&H cartridges do look pretty cool though. I would love a rifle in 465 H&H or 400 H&H if it were more available.Anyone know what the story is with these rounds?
