recoil reducers
      #40970 - 08/11/05 01:32 PM

The 458 that followed me home
is being fitted with 2 BreaKo
reducers. When done it should
take the rifle to about 9 1/2 lbs..
When optics are in place it should
be about 10 1/2 lbs.. What is the
optimum weight for a 458? I have
experience with the BreaKo in my 375s.
Being a shot gunner balance is always
in my mind on any firearm. That is why
I am considering the small reducer that
fits rifle forearms. I have no experience
with the forward mounted reducers. What
is the best way to secure them? I don't
want a clunker ; yet I want the heft.

10.5 or 11 pounds is the MAX I would go with a .458. IMO, 10 pounds is about right.

I had a .458 with a recoil reducer and it was very pleasant to shoot. I think the gun just broke 9 pounds without scope.

Does anyone know if Searcy uses Recoil reducers?

The rifle is complete with
the 2 reducers it is 9 3/4lbs
no optics. The balance is not
that bad. It balances on the
floor plate in a open hand. I
hope to shoot it this weekend.
I also had a Limbsaver pad in-
stalled. It feels soft maybe
too soft.

The limbsaver pad is soft, but it works. I have one on an 8mm Rem Mag and my 458 Lott. Both guns are significantly more pleasant to shoot now.

What kind of recoil reducer is there that adds weight? Where does it fit on the rifle, in the stock?
The only recoil reducer I've heard of is the brakes.

If you do a search on the subject, recoil reducers have been convered a couple of times in the past. Recoil reducers are usually 1/2# to 1# depending on maker. RR's are stainless steel tubes that are filled with mercury and several ball bearings, then sealed to keep them from leaking. They do work.

BTW they inserted in the buttstock and glassed in.
