Scope sight or open sight wiht a bolt action in .505 Gibbs? Isn't a problem with the recoil?

I will go open sights. If you go for a scope get a Leopold, they give you the most eye relief. Also get an ajustable scope with the smallest magnification not bigger than 1.75. On close shots you have a wider field of view.
It all depends wether you will shoot from a close range or from a long range.

As per previous post, if you go for a scope get a Leupold 1.5 - 5 or something like that for the long eye relief + it's tried and tested on big bores.
Don't over power the scope.
Make sure if you put a scope on it is in QD mounts and that your bullets shoot to the same point of impact with both the scope and open sights (this is easy to achieve with any gun).
The only time I can see you using 505 on longer shots is if using the gun on a running wounded animal that is getting away.
I wouldn't be shooting past 150 yards on the first shot with a 505 Gibbs.
Also - decide whether you will use 525gn or 600gn bullets or make sure both shoot to the same point of impact.
Good luck.

I agree with SAHUNT and 500Nitro as to quick detachable mounts and a LOW POWER SCOPE.
Personaly I would never mount a scope on a 505 Gibbs. I don't have a scope on my Brno 602 in 458 Win. or 458 Lott as I feel they are up close and personal work. But this is my opinion and perference. I want to be able to get on target as fast as possible, and for me open sights accomplish this best.

My opinion for what its worth :- I wouldnt fit a scope onto anything larger than a 375 H&H or CT.
