Bought my last BPE double rifle.
      #392452 - 14/07/25 12:53 PM

Well I told myself that I wasn't going to buy anymore hammer double rifles. I've cheated. Bought this one yesterday morning. W.W. GREENER - A .577-500 NO.2 EXP. ROTARY-UNDERLEVER DOUBLE HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 26442, for 1888, 28in. Greener trade mark steel barrels, the undersides of the breech-end engraved 'HENRY'S RIFLING A&T. 509/10.', engine-turned matt rib, bead fore-sight, standing notch rear sight with one folding leaf sight with white metal inlaid sight lines, the breech-end engraved 'W.W. GREENER. 68 HAYMARKET. LONDON.', and with acanthus scroll detailing, Jones patent rotary-underlever, carved percussion fences, back-action locks with rebounding hammers, border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. pistolgrip stock with steel pistolgrip cap, including rubber recoil pad, fore-end with grip-release catch, sling eyes, weight 10lb. 4oz.

Don't blame you for breaking your rules for this one, wonderful lines & beautiful engraving!
Will love to see the range report on this one, BP a must or will it be NFB loads?

I don't use black powder unless I absolutely have to. It will be NFB. I already load this cartridge for my Westley hammerless double rifle.

What a very nice rifle Casper and looking forward to your YouTube shooting report.

BTW, I have broken numerous promises to myself about buying another rifle. I rationalize by noting that when I made the promise, I hadn't seen the rifle I am buying.

I'll try that on my wife. She's pretty sharp so I doubt that it will work but we'll see.

Very nice and worth breaking your rule. I find it interseting how these outside hammer ,Jones lever based guns are so similar, from the top end London makers, like yours, to my gun just a Birmingham by a maker I've never seen before T.C. Martin, even the engraving, so similar and I think high grade, tight little scroll and such

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve broken a promise like that, well then, I’d buy yet another BPE hammer double. Looking forward to your shooting report.

These wonderful rifles do seem very similar in that they are of a very high quality, wonderfully engraved, and just look "right". Of course, many "gunmakers" didn't make all of their guns but did add their names to the guns they sold.

I have seen pictures of interesting guns by T.C. Martin. The pictures were likely in the DGJ. There were a number of very qualified Birmingham gun makers.

Thumbs up, mate! Nice!

At that weight, over ten pounds, it should be very comfortable to shoot.

...and we won't hold it against you if this one turns out not to be your last either!

Looks wonderful. I can see it being carried by the Bwana, in the days of untamed unmapped Africa. Adventures abound.

My kids will have to liquidate the ones I have now and they have no knowledge about them. Can only shoot one at a time and 6 is plenty. I'm also looking for a special bolt gun that I've wanted for about 20 years.

Mike,

Many of us are probably in the same boat: children don't know (or care) much about our "toys". While we can only shoot one at a time, some of us cannot limit our collection to 6, much to the chagrin of our better halfs.

What is the special bolt gun that you have wanted?

Very nice, good all round

The acanthus scroll engraving IMHO is the absolute best for a British rifle

It is good that you "cheated" as it gives us all an opportunity to see such good doubles

I was offered a similar rifle (but not as good) recently but went for a plain Reilly in .450 / 31/4" which I will post soon

~Many thanks for posting

TH
