I have managed to get my hands on an original set of scope mounts for the early MS rifles. I am missing the front base.
This is the type that I have.

This is the front base that I need.

Not the best photos but photos of the base are hard to find. Any help locating the front base would be greatly appreciated.

Try contacting Lee LeBas at LeArms. He was able to source a similar mount for my 1903, and did a GREAT job.

this is a vienna snap mount, dont know if steyr ever make scope mounts on special order but dont believe it. its the same like claw mounts, was made by the local gunmaker and parts are not changeable. for a tool maker its a childs play to make you a workpiece and the rest is filing.

Would anyone have one that they could provide some measurements and at least give my machinist somewhere to begin?

I am, alas, far from that rifle. You may be best off phoning Mr. LeBas, that seemed to work better, at least to get started.
His technique is based on his "hobby" of collecting scopes and mounts. He will then file to fit your mount.
My M1910 also needs a mount. I am planning a trip to Vienna (actually closer than my M1903 right now), and I will be stopping in at Johann Springer.
Only other option I can give you for measurements is to find every photo you can on the web, and go from there. At some point, the proportions will make sense.
